Surely has to be Papps. If it's not, I'll be pretty hacked off. Just our luck, we finally get a world-beating squad together and we keep injuring each other.

Bond shouldn't be allowed to bowl to our batsmen anymore.
They can't select Papps as he wasn't in the initial squad of 30 players

If England can, surely we can, too?

EDIT: Also, I imagine Astle would be a part of that 30-man squad, so I figure Papps would take that position.

I thought that Ravinder Bopara chap wasn't in the 30? Not sure.

EDIT: Looks like I was indeed wrong after a quick check. Still, hopefully Papps can take up Astle's position.

Most articles are mentioning either Marshall or Papps as the potential replacements. Please not Marshall. :(

"Hamish Marshall is to be called into the squad as a replacement for Vincent."

Thats what all the reports are saying now.

I think they should have picked Michael Papps instead of Marshall...opener for opener. plus the small fact that Papps is in awesome form right now.

Oh I just read up and saw that he wasn't in the squad of 30! bugger.

Don't tell me we are going to open with H. Marshall! I would have thought James would have been the better selection.

Perhaps Fulton can open, he just needs to pretend he's batting at 3 and is coming in after an early wicket.

I don't understand the calls for Michael Papps to be brought into the WC squad, for a start he isn't the in 30 man preliminary squad and his State Shield form has been average this season. If anything Craig Cumming would have been a better option, not sure whether he was in the preliminary squad though. I guess we'll see McCullum, Fulton or Marshall opening which is a real shame, there goes our chances of winning down the drain.

Cumming is still not valuable enough in the State Shield to be valuable to our ODI side.

It has been announced that Fulton is opening already on the tv news

I'm trying very hard not to smile about Vincent's injury, because that would just be cruel.

Anyway, it seems like all of our crap players are getting injured, which really just makes the selection issues easier, e.g. now we can play all of Fulton/Styris/McMillan. Even if Fulton comes up with a string of failures opening, it won't make much difference anyway as that's what we're used to at the top of the order.

Cricinfo is saying that Gillespie has been cleared to play now???

Taylor is a big loss for the WI game, assuming he can't play.

So Fulton should just bat like usual, then

Don't understand how anyone can consider Vincent crap after he's averaged 43.66 in his last ten games against Australia. Fleming averages 23.66. Since Vincent returned to the side for the ICC CT, he's averaged 39.07. Every series he's averaged higher and higher. Sure, you can say he's a player who makes some poor shots, you can even say he's an idiot for all I care, but to say he's a crap player is unfair on the guy. The facts never lie, and the facts say he's one of our best three batsmen and, during the CB & CH series, was our most consistent batsmen.

Knock a guy when he's down, okay. But knock a guy when he's doing fantastic, not fair at all on the lad. And yes, I have watched all his CB & CH series innings. His batting was fine. The odd bad shot, sure, but Fulton was also guilty of that on occasion and Fleming more so than both of them.

EDIT: Note, I don't think Fleming is crap either.

If you consider Vincent to be crap then Fleming will also be a crap player (with the exception of his captaincy)
