Now there's the stuff of legend.

Particularly Nazgul making an unbeaten 65 to win the league title.

(edit: and the day after the losing captain and nine-wicket-hauler dies...)

Apparently the circumstance were 'dubious', with some really poor Khulna bowling.

Full season review to come this evening, done half of it already.

Sonargaon storm into final

CricBD Staff
23 March, 2007

Sonargaon Cricketers stormed into the Independence Cup cricket tournament final of the with a 22-run win over Victoria Sporting Club at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The winners of Saturday's match between Mohammedan and Victoria will meet Sonargaon in the March 26 final.

It was Fahim Muntasir Sumit starred in Sonargaon's second win -- they beat Mohammedan by 52 runs in opening game -- as the off-spinner bagged four wickets for 24 to wrap up the Victoria innings for 226 runs.

Sonargaon thrived on two half centuries by Marshal Ayub and Elias Sunny to put on 248-9 in the stipulated 50 overs after deciding to bat.

Marshal smashed 67 off 78 balls with the help of four boundaries and then he also shone with his leg-spin to claim two wickets for 20.

Left-handed Sunny made 51 off 93 deliveries that featured four fours and he associated in a 71-run stand for the third wicket with Al Shahriar Rokon, who hit a 60-ball 48, smashing seven boundaries after his side lost two wickets on 18.

Hannan Sarker, who played a blazing 64-run knock in the first game, returned for a duck.

Nazmul Hossain scored 50 off 76 balls while Gazi Salahuddin and Shahnewaz Kabir chipped in with 42 and 43 respectively but their efforts were not good enough for Victoria to chase down the total as they were bundled out with 19 balls to spare.

Efaz, what's the point in this Independence Cup? It seems a bit pointless to me, unless there's some sentimental reason. Half the players aren't playing for their real club anyway.

Well, I was trying to find out which of the youngsters in the National League will be playing in the next U19s World Cup when the google search yielded the 4th page of this thread as a search result.

I'm in absolute awe. Not only has this thread been maintained with almost religious dedication, the bloke responsible for it appears to have no connection whatsoever to Bangladesh. It seems that this also applies to some of the contributors in it. I can say without a hint of a doubt that JJ knows more about Bangladeshi cricket than any Bangladeshi I know, or any Bangladeshi I'm ever likely to meet.

Superb thread. Please keep it up next season JJ, you've acquired one more regular reader.

Seven (yes, seven) hundreds on day four of the one-day NCL led to a run feast. All six innings yielded run rates in excess of six an over. The bowlers, meanwhile, had little to write home about.

BKSP No.2 Ground: Barisal (2pts, 2-2) beat Sylhet (0pts, 2-2) by 4 wickets
Sylhet 288-8 (43)

Golam Mabud 60, Alok Kapali 101 (77b, 9x4, 5x6), Ejaj Ahmed 50 (34b, 4x4, 1x6); Ariful Haque 2-62, Raisul Islam 2-47
Barisal 293-6 (37.4)
Nasiruddin Faruque 115 (87b, 16x4, 2x6), Raqibul Hasan 93* (75b, 7x4, 4x6); Hasibul Hossain 2-69, Rashedur Rahman 2-49

Fatullah: Chittagong (2pts, 2-2) beat Rajshahi (0pts, 3-1) by 4 wickets
Rajshahi 329-6 (50)

Junaid Siddique 104 (97b, 10x4, 3x6), Rafiqul Islam 38, Anisur Rahman 107* (98b, 9x4, 2x6), Mushfiqur Rahman 47 (25b, 5x4, 3x6); Tareq Aziz 2-37, Mohammad Younus 2-55, Elias Sunny 2-67
Chittagong 333-6 (42.5)
Mahbubul Karim 145 (121b, 10x4, 8x6), Dhiman Ghosh 147 (100b, 19x4, 1x6); Rafiul Islam 2-40

Mahbubul Karim and Dhiman Ghosh put on 290 for Chittagong's third wicket, the third highest third-wicket stand in List A limited overs history (up to 2002, data not available since). A win for Rajshahi would have given them the title; they must now play Dhaka on Wednesday in a decider.

Dhanmondi: Dhaka (2pts, 3-1) beat Khulna (0pts, 0-4) by 2 runs
Dhaka 335-3 (50)

Anwar Hossain 41, Mehrab Hossain jnr 155* (127b, 19x4, 2x6), Al Sahariar 59 (46b, 6x4, 2x6), Nazmul Hossain 56* (20b, 4x4, 5x6)
Khulna 333-9 (50)
Nahidul Haque 85, Mazhar 85, Mohammad Farid 45, Asadullah Khan 68, Fahim Muntasir 54 (31b, 5x4, 2x6); Nazmul Hossain 3-58, Mohammad Sukran 2-54, Rashedul Islam 2-72

Dhaka's narrow victory over winless Khulna effectively set up a final with Rajshahi. Mehrab Hossain hammered his second List A ton, sharing stands of 112 with Anwar Hossain and 139 with Al Sahariar.

Hope Mehrab keeps this up too. I'd like to see him in the reckoning for the India series.

Can anyone tell me what sort of bowler Mohammed Shahzada is? Is he quicker, for instance, than someone like Rasel?

I'm not entirely sure - there is very little by way of comment from the Bangladeshi media - but I think he's a bit quicker than Rasel and offers a little swing.

He's definitely one to watch though.

Shahazada isn't that tall......he is around 5'7'' which is very short for a seamer

Just to compare with the other bd bowlers

Shahadat 6'3''
Mortaza 6'1''
Rasel 5'11''
