Sunil blasts the Australians

Do you agree with Sunil Gavaskar’s assessment of the Australians?

I believe that his article was written out of slight anger of Australian's recent poor manners (treatment of BCCI president at champions trophy presentation) but also jealousy of how brilliant they have been.

I believe that this world cup is open for the taking (for all test nations except Zimbabwe) and that the cricket should do the talking instead of silly rants in magasines.

I didnt know Lillee tried to kick Gavaskar..Miandad yes (infact he succeeded on that one), but Gavaskar?

I watch the two incidents live, and I dont recall DK trying to kick Sunny...he pointed at his pads after Sunny started kicking up a stink

Yeah I think C_C is a little mixed up here, but that is okay we all do that

Former Indian captain Wadeker leans in as well. Says Aussie cricketers were rude enough to boo Bradman

Main points.
The chances of an Australian, anywhere at anytime, booing Bradman are minimal at best.

The guy is considered the greatest ever Australian by most and had it actually happened, there would have been a national outcry.

Given that this is the only place I've ever seen it mentioned and the latter example of boot cleaning happens to every sportsman that enters the country (it's a practice designed to quarantine Australian agriculture from potential disease), I have my doubts re the credibility of the entire article.

BTW, should this actually have happened, how is it any more relevant than the crowd in Mumbai giving Tendulkar a similar send-off

Because :-

a. Tendulkar is not Bradman, He isn't even the best batsman from Mumbai.
b. Tendulkar was playing like ****

Guys you just don't judge someone like Tendulkar on his current form, the man is playing International cricket for the last 17 or 18 years and he has done almost everything a batsman dream of achieving in a cricketing career.
So even if Tendulkar doesn't score a single run now his achievements are far too great to be ridiculed, a player like Tendulkar is gift from God to cricket.

so you believe McDermott but not Wadekar?

And it is relevant in the sense that it was the PLAYERS who booed Bradman, not the crowd. And hence it shows how rude the Aussie players can be, or more pertinently, have been in the past. It is one thing for a common spectator to boo a great player but quite another for fellow players to boo the GREATEST batsman of all time, someone no other batsman has even got close to.

BTW, I dont think it is all that relevant to the present day Aussie cricketers, tbh. Its not like just because their predecessors were rude, these guys are gonna be rude as well. But the point shows that THAT particular bunch of Aussie cricketers were rude enough to boo the greatest batsman of all time.

Bradman, as great a cricketer he might've been, didn't necessarily have the best reputation as an administrator. Player frustration towards him wasn't uncommon.

well, however bad he may have been, it is no reason to boo a guy when he is lecturing the Australian cricketers AND the visiting team. That just smacks of disrespect.
