*Official* English Football Season 2006-07

Tom Halsey

International Coach
He was the guy that got sent off for shoving an elbow into an American face right?
Yeah. Roma have a lot of players with tempers actually, what with him, Totti, Mexes and the like. Wnding them up could prove fruitful, shame we don't have a Keane or someone any more.

EDIT: They're all one yellow away from getting suspended, too, apparenly. Excellent. Roma aren't exactly a stereotypical Italian side, they attack quite a lot, so I reckon we could get an away goal or two if we attack them back, particularly on the wings.

Can't believe how utterly halfwitted the BBC's pundits are. How do these morons even manage the conundrum that is putting trousers on in the morning let alone anything else?

Another ridiculous 'handball' penalty. How is it difficult to comprehend that has to deliberate? It's as clear as black and white yet the imbeciles still get it wrong. During the game you've got a guy who can't speak English banging on about how it hit both of his hands... what the hell has that got to do with anything apart from it being probably wrong anyway?

Good game tho, Carrick looked awful and some really nice deliveries and good workrate from Downing despite him being below par generally.

anyone wathcing the superclassico ATM. The commentators are stressing on the fact that Barca only have 3 defenders which is odd when they have Thuram, Puyol, Marquez & Oleguer on the pitch.

Vieira is still a good player but defenitely isn't the force of 2-3 years ago when I watch him in the CL.He IMO doesn't rank up with the best there is.I'd much rather rely on these men to deliver a more effective performance.Cambiasso I appeciate is a very good player but there are many still better than him IMO.

Andrea Pirlo
Xabi Alonso
Mohammed Sissoko
Claude Makelele
Xavi
Owen Hargreaves
Cesc Fabregas
Don't know if i'd term Pirlo, Xavi, Xabi & Fabregas holding mid-fielders TBH, they are more so deep lying playmakers since they achor their respectives sides play rather than break up opposition attacks.

Beckham had as much chance of being picked in the England squad as Ireland have of winning the Cricket World Cup.
His chances of returning to the national side are clearly not that low, especially if he can return from injury & put in good performances in the last phase of his Madrid career.

Barca - Madrid is interesting, even if the quality of the football is dire. Barca have gone out with three at the back and too much flair in midfield yet again; how Oleguer is good enough to play for them is beyond me; Puyol is massively overrated as a defender. They're turning into the Real Madrid of the last few seasons.

That really is a harsh and stupid statement.Hell I'd much rather be in Barcelona's position than Madrid's.They have they're weaknesses but are still way ahead of Madrid IMO.I'd be surprised to say the least if Barca in the next 1-2 years fall away as bad as Madrid did.

TBH if Madrid win this game I wouldn't read much into it.It's the games against the mid table-lower mid table teams that is going to determine their season and they have a habit of drawing or losing against supposedly weaker teams.IMO it's if Madrid can build on this that will count.

I laughed so hard when Barca scored their equaliser. Literally just got into the pub and thought well this move looks promising, and then looked like and idiot laughing at next to nothing.

Fabregas I would hardly say is a holding midfielder, and neither is Xavi, and Hargreaves, are you jumping on the bandwagon before when the majority of English fans thought he was rubbish and now the flavour of the month?

Would put Gattuso in ahead of the bottom three IMO (saying Fabregas is strictly a holding midfielder is like saying Steven Gerrard is one too).

Been best league in Europe for a fair while now IMO. Anyway, as has been said, the draw makes an all-English final a distinct possibility, the only way that works though is if we're one of them. And if we are, I distinctly hope it's the Scousers, we have the wood on them.
 **** off. You can't use one season in Europe as an example of how "brilliant" the Premiership is. Just look at last year, for example.

Last year in the first knockout you had 3 Spanish teams, 3 English teams and 3 Italian teams. In the quarters were 3 Italian, 2 Spanish and 1 English. Semis were 2 spanish, 1 Italian and 1 English. Should we have said conclusively that the Spanish or Italian leagues were much better? Liverpool won in '05 and Man U in '99 but before that you had to go back to Liverpool's win in '84 to find another English team lifting the trophy. Spain's had '06, '02, '00, '98 for example. The Runners Up paints an even more clearer picture.

You can't just say that the English league has been the best for some time (particularly by simply alluding to one season of the Champions League as an example), because it's absolute unsubstantiated bull****.

Did you pay attention to his WC performances?.While all the other England players were absolute garbage Hargreaves was the one with energy, drive and commitment. The majority of England fans thought he was "rubbish" because he was used so sparingly in meaningless friendly matches with 10-15 minutes to go and they would judge him on those performances. When he evantually got a run of games he proved what a very good player he is.When Hargreaves returns to the starting X1 against Israel it will make a huge difference IMO as Lampard should then be resigned to the bench.

IMO there is no real way in proving that one league is "better" than the other. Every league has it's strengths and weaknesses. It's a pointless and worthless arguement.

And they are all played at different paces as well. At the moment I watch a lot of Spanish football, because the times are pretty good for me. Although I hate the standard of ref's there, IMO it is shocking.

I don't like La Liga either.Apart from the referees who are a disgrace and send off a player for breathing the time wasting, diving and general bad sportsmanship of La Liga make it a turn off IMO.Much rather watch a game played at high pace with good fair tackles like the Premiership. However with the introduction of so many foreingers the EPL is starting to get La Liga's bad points incoorperated into games.

I hate it when people just assume it's all the foreigners that do the diving and not the British. Or that British people only dive because foreigners do. What a load of crap.

You've only been here a few months, but any check will find that Deco is one of my least favourite players, because of that what you mentioned. IMO I think he is on the over-rated side as well. You would have to say Leo Messi >>>>>>>>> Deco.
