Hayden's 181*, how good was it really?

Dumbest post. If it was Pietersen who made it, you'd no doubt be going about how good it was for the next six years. Seems like Hayden will never ever get any recognition for anything he does, especially from some members of this forum.
Of course, I would, I totally agree. But shock horror nationalistic bias happnes gets over it, I just to love KP, so yes, I would have sung his praises for 6 years if he had ,made 181*.

Nowhere have I said that his innings was poor, I thought that it was a good innings, just not anywhere near some other innings by Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting and so on.

Which is not what you said to start with and had you, I doubt so many people (or anyone for that matter) would have jumped on you.

Nowhere in the OP did I give any sort of opinion on it, rather than I had seen better innings of 40-50 than it.

****ing hell!!

People like you two really piss me off. How about you explain why you thought it was shocking or dire, rather than just jumping on the bandwagon like everyone else, and being total fools. I don't have a problem with people like Pasag or Fiery who explain why they thought it was dire or stupid, but you two and others.............

I don't need to express my thoughts about the joke of a topic seeing as how everybody else has said how I feel about it. Your admission to the fact that you would be all praises about the inning had it been KP who scored it makes it even more of a joke. You don't like the guy, so you slander him even after he scored 181* in a limited overs game?

You went on to say that "nowhere did I say the innings was poor" only after everybody jumped on you, which to me makes it even more laughable.

I was offline when everyone 'jumped on me', so I didn't realise that everyone had the idea (like you do) that I thought it was an awful innings, I even put that I thought it was a good innings...........

I couldn't have put it better myself. :)

Imo anyone who compared Hayden's 181* to many 40-50s shouldn't even be on a cricket forum.

I mean, WTF is you reasoning behind that?

He scored 181* runs, highest ever by an Autralian. He hit 10 6s, most ever by an Australian. He took his team to 347.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT HIM TO DO??

Yes it wasn't the most taxing of conditions he played in but i didn't see anyone else hit 10 6s. I think his sheer domminace and making batting look easy has made you think that it really is.

Raincheck. IT ISNT.

And that comment about his bat just shows that your looking for reasons to criticise.

Weren't you one of the people who said that Collingwood's ton was one of the best you'd ever seen?
Well there's absolutely no disputing Collingwood's was the better knock of the two IMO.

And quite possibly the 70 was better too, but the 128* was miles better.

:laugh::lol::laugh::lol::laugh::lol: at your location, BTW!

Well it's certainly not unreasonable to rank the Waugh 173 ahead of it IMO.

Waugh, who score 173, not 40?

What point are you making here? It may well be better than hayden's knock, i wouldn't no as i haven't seen it, i'm not saying it wasn't.

I was referring to the fact that it was the score overtaken to become the highest by an Australian in ODIs.

It was a damn good knock, BTW. As was the Hayden one. But IMO the Waugh one was better.

Say what you want about Hayden, but at least put his achievements into perspective...He is the first Australian to hold both the test and ODI highest score record (and I haven't checked, he might be the first in international cricket). That is something that will never be taken away from him. A wonderful batsman and a wonderful player.

Well he did until recently.

And David Houghton did for Zimbabwe, too, before Grant Flower joined him and Andy overtook him (well, and then Craig Wishart overtook the lot of them, but it was against the might of Namibia so I tend to discount it).

Glenn Turner did for NZ, too - officially it was 171* but that was against the might of East Africa so I tend to discount that, too. Really it was 140. Martin Crowe overtook him in Tests before Bryan Young and Fleming (twice) also did. Styris is the only one to score more in a ODI against a ODI-standard side. The top 3 official ones are all against substandard sides.

Officially Gary Kirsten held South Africa's joint-highest Test score and highest ODI score, too, but that ODI score was against the might of UAE, so guess what? Yes, we can safely discount it.
