Hayden's 181*, how good was it really?

Hayden's was a fine knock, especially the way he smashed the ball around after breaking a toe - I wonder how many players have scored that many with a runner in ODIs?

Saeed Anwar comes to mind. Mauled us to the tune of quite a lot of runs, with a runner. Methinks if you made 40-50 on a very dodgy pitch, where team mates were falling around you, it would be better than the 181. Technique over Style IMO.

(don't actually know any, that's why making it generic:p)

Damn, PF really got grilled. Surprised that either a) he hasn't come out to clarify his views or b) people can't get over one stupid post.

Actually I kept from posting anything figuring its just his opinion until he admitted he would've praised the inning for years to come had it been KP.

Yeah, that was a bit weird. It's one thing to be biased towards your country, it's another thing to state explicitly that the same innings by a different player would be better than the one Hayden played. That's just nuts, really.

I think 181 are big runs 1 or 2 more overs, then hayden could have even scored 200, so you just can't say that the bowling attack was poor and the pitch was flat.

i think if the opener of a team bats the 50 overs and faces more then 150 balls on a flat deck then they should really score 200. but still it was a very good innings but wud be fristrating for him that it wasnt enough for the team 2 win in the end.

Logic? How the hell does Hayden nearing 200 invalidate the "the attack was poor and pitch was flat" possibility?

TBF...
Of course, I would, I totally agree. But shock horror nationalistic bias happnes gets over it, I just to love KP, so yes, I would have sung his praises for 6 years if he had ,made 181*.

Nowhere have I said that his innings was poor, I thought that it was a good innings, just not anywhere near some other innings by Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting and so on.

adharcric, mate i was just trying to say that when a bloke like haydos was playing such a knock that he could have made the first ever double-ton(if 1 or 2 overs were left) in odi history, then how can one raise doubts over the quality of his knock by saying things like the pitch was flat and bowling attack was poor.

You also need to take into account that haydos made the 81 runs after his century in no time, when he was in real pain due to the broken big toe. The way he striked the ball was another highlight of his knock.

Well... because... one can always raise doubts over said thing, regardless of how many end-up being scored.

Stroked or struck. Not striked.

But NO ONE has EVER scored 200 in an ODI.
