That six by McCullum was one of the coolest shots I've ever seen given the situation of the match.

The Saffies are talking an awful lot at the moment, I think they need to keep their heads down and let their cricket do the talking.

I'm a little surprised to see Australian fans so cut up over this loss tbh. Do people really think this has a bearing on Australia's WC chances? It's a long tournament, and class usually shines through. Obviously you'd want to go in to the tournament in better form, but Australia are still WC favourites IMO, and we'll be getting a few players back and so on.

We've got some things to work on, but it's probably better than going in complacent.

edit: Just to clarify, I'm not attempting to take anything away from NZ here. Two stunning chases. I just don't think it's cause for panic over the World Cup.

I still have Australia as favourites, but I think it shows just how much they rely on Ponting...also in the field.

I don't get why people don't learn, writing teams off after so much that has happened in world cricket in the last 12 months. Surely SA vs. Aus would have made people shut up till game's end :p
Surely now, after the NZ chase back in last year's Chappell Hadlee series, the SA 434 chase, and the two NZ chases here, it'll stop now. Its one thing making predictions about tourneys and stuff, but mid-game ones regarding the result are becoming decidedly dangerous now.

It has a bearing on the chances, inasmuch as it seems to weaken them by empowering other teams with confidence, and undoubtedly sapping some of the Australian confidence. It may be inconsequential to the final result, but it certainly has some bearing on the balance of power heading into the World Cup. Still favourites, but not as strongly as a month ago.

Yeah but you say that everytime honestly.

Its bad signs, there's bad pieces of fielding, idiotic bowling and just in general massive choking. It doesn't matter whether Gilly or Ponting or Symonds are not there when things like that are happening almost all the time.

What it comes down to Faaip, Australia twice in 3 days couldn't defend 330+, and this time with having the opposition 4 down and their best batsman back in the shed. Disgraceful.

Even if Australia go on to win the WC, that doesn't mean they haven't played **** cricket for the last month. And it has a bearing on the WC because the opposition will hardly fear Aus now. Before, Aus having a team 4/40 or whatever would generally cause the team to shut up shop, and literally just play out the game for the most part. Now, they'll know they can still win.

It's just for fun really. It's not like people are laying down money, and I'd rather have a guess and be wrong than sit on the fence when it comes to sport. Besides, there's a long standing tradition of sports fans writing off their team when there's still a glimmer of hope. It's an easier let down if you don't win.

There may be a point in terms of captaincy, but batting was hardly a great issue for the most part in this series.

Don't think anyone will beat Andy's efforts with South Africa though, that was top-notch.

today's match had 26 sixes - yes, 26 - to equal the record set during that 438 match at Johannesburg last year.

hmmm....more than 150 less runs but equal number of sixes !!!!!!!!
