Thought the batting order 'master-plan' was to have Watson practicing at finishing an innings off. Not sure what today achieved in that regard other than have a non-WC squad player heap a load more pressure on him.

They still have to aim to win the game, though. Australia probably would have missed out on 20 or 30 runs if Watson had come in ahead of White. It would have been a stupid decision. Of course, batting Watson at 7 isn't all that bright to begin with, so you never know.

I agree with you... just if you're going down that road and being flexible, which I think is right, then why didn't Watson come in before White in the last match?

haven't seen any of the game but not surprised at the score. I will say it for the 100th time, Eden Park is not fit to be an international cricket ground...

Not taking anything away from Australia though, who batted well.

Nobody on telly or in this thread has mentioned that that is the highest score at Eden Park beating a 25 year old record 304/5 1982/3 NZ v Sri Lanka. Highest scores at Eden Park

Small ground, good batting, medium pacers (bar Bond) = big score.

Kiwis got a taste of what the WC could be like and it'll be interesting to see how Oz adapt

Hoping NZ make a decent fist of the chase at least. 2.00am over here so need something special to keep me awake.

It was only a matter of time until a team absolutly pummeled a massive 300+ score. The slow natured pitch has safe guarded against that in the past.

Eden Park with a good pitch should be a 300+ pitch every game, with the odd blow out (350+).

Well....we have learnt a few things. Hussey is still Mr Cricket. And for NZ Bond needs to improve his death bowling and we can't use a combination of McMillan/Styris for the fifth bowling option on a good batting pitch.
