As already pointed out by GIMH, one-off games mean nothing. England once beat Germany 5-1. Were we better than Germany to that extent in 2001? No.

Touch and go with that. Germany had their worst team since reunification around 2000, and still they got to the final of a WC in 2002.

So I see reports in Spain indicate that that Barca are prepared to sell either Ronaldinho or Samuel Eto'o to fund the the attempted purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Well there is the wages per week, the team, the history, stadium that would encourage a player. I'm sure there are worse places to live in England though.

Saw it on Eurosport news this morning that Robinho said he turned down a move to Tottenham because they were too small of a club for him to join. Even if it is remotely true, I guess a certain poster on here would think he is a smart man. I don't know about Robinho too be honest, certainly hasn't lived up to the hype while he was at Santos. Over-rated for mine at this stage.

I still wouldn't consider selling Ronaldo if Eto'o and Ronaldinho were on the cards. Just not worth giving up the best player in the world, as far as I'm concerned at least. Especially when they're so young, and the other "best players" are unproven in the English game.

Considering some of the players that we've attracted over the years, I reckon that isn't too big a problem.

Having said that, I echo Bob's sentiments - I don't want Ronaldo going, whoever we may sign in return.

straight yo, Ronaldo is biggest player in United. If we want to build back up our reputation as the best in England we will need him since Chelsea, Liverpool & the Gunners will come back hard in the coming seasons.

Neither can I, though I can see Arsenal dominating in 5 or so years time. They're building up a very strong collection of young players, and I don't think Chelsea's success will be long term personally.

I can't see the CDMs dominating in 5 years, they'll probably win the odd league title or FA Cup. With all these young players you have to remember that a lot of them will just turn out to be rubbish basically. Some of them will turn out to be long-term international class obviously but they'd need money to buy the players in that'll give them some experience and fill in the holes. They might get the odd player with the extra revenue they now get with the bigger stadium but not enough to dominate. They'll probably still be a bit of a soft touch as well.

They seem to have done ok in their various outings so far. United showed in the 90s that it can be done with a young team, and I am slightly worried that the CDMs may be successful too.

don't see why Arsenal can't be a threat in the next 5 years, they have got a brilliant blend of youth & experience. They managed to beat United twice this season which says a lot IMO.

That was a true team in a weaker era (they were up against the mighty Newcastle who hadn't won squat for decades when Hansen made his famous remark, if I remember rightly) and it was a bit of freak the way so many players came through anyway. CDMs' youngsters are a bunch of mixed nationality mercenaries.

I hope you're right, but personally I'm not convinced.
