lol. I did get carried away a bit there. Expecting my British passport soon.
But seriously, it is a terrific comeback. The Lara series and Laxman/Harby series were when no one expected anything from the opponents. Australia went in as favourites, won the first tests comfortably and looked set for another dominant series win. Here, England were expected to fight hard and make a good fist of the Ashes. Flintoff was expected to continue his glory run against Australia from the last Ashes, Pieterson was expected to smash hundreds and Harmison was expected to get a lot of wickets etc. Given the hype for this series and the absolute canning that they got from the press for a better part of 3 months, for these guys to have stuck around (remember, this is the part where most sides LOSE it in Australia after playing well in the first half of the tour, simply because no one enjoys 3 months away from home, esp. having to play quality cricket day after day, which is what you have to do against Australia to even be in with a chance.), had faith in each other and themselves and find some self belief from somewhere and turn it around like this deserves more kudos than you guys seem to think.
When was the last time Australia were defeated in 3 LIVE ODIs at a stretch? When was the last time Australia lost a final? When was the last time England actually won a big ODI tournament? You are talking of an extremely inexperienced side with not many hugely talented players pulling off an ultimate coup here. I am sure Australia took their foot off a bit and I am sure they are starting to feel the effects of missing Martyn and Symonds but this is still a great victory and I can't believe people are underplaying it. I know this doesn't make England big contenders for the WC, some of their frailities still exist but still, this is an outstanding feat.
