Great shot from Ponting.

Big scores in large chases has always been the one area where he's been lacking in ODI cricket. I think his average in chases over 250 is 30 or so. Would be great if he made a big score today.

You know we may have stuffed up in not having played Patel..

I do not know if Oram and Styris will do much on this surface - it may just be a case of "hit me" where their bowling is concerned. Hope I'm wrong though...

Because he's justifying his selection now, obviously. If anyone called for his head now, they'd be called a flaming idiot given his form. That ton where he got dropped several times seems to have done wonders for his confidence and his form and he's going on with it.
Which is the point I was trying to make. Your view is very much in contrast to Faaip's take on it I see

Not really. We both hold the view that calling for him to be dropped now would be ridiculous given his form and that is the reason that people aren't doing it. He was lucky to be recalled in the first place, he was lucky to hold on to his spot, and he was lucky to score that hundred. But he seems to be making some use of this luck and putting some form and some runs together. Hopefully, for Australia's sake, he can continue the form into the World Cup on slower, lower pitches which probably won't suit him given the way he hits those drives.

As I type though, he plays a ridiculous shot straight to the fielder in the deep.. one of the many reasons he has struggled in one day cricket in the past few years - lack of genuine placement.

At the moment i really can't figure out what clark is doing in the side. He is not keeping his economy under check neither is he good at death bowling. But someone like tait can do the job at any time of the innings. Hayden can't believe he's caught, he thought they would again drop him giving him some more chances.

Franklin's average was 40 not so long ago.....:( , but he has done well in this series. His wickets have come at about 21 each before this game.

Game on, those two quick wickets have brought game a bit closer.

Good score from NZ by the looks of things. C'mon Australia.

I feel a traitor. It's the first time I've supported Australia since the 2003 rugby world cup against the All Blacks....:p

Terrible shot from Hayden. He's always had a real problem getting out playing his basic run scoring shots in ODIs. Driving to short cover and holing out to midwicket.

Would have preferred Hodge at 4 to Clarke, but I guess it doesn't make a huge difference. Crucial partnership this one,

Errr no need to remind us of that.
One of the more depressing nights of my life - made more so by the fact that I was living in Australia at the time. I could not get out of the pub fast enough...

Again...this is the point I was trying to make
And Sean said something very similar. So how is my view in contrast to his?

He mentioned that people continued to call for his head immediately after his ton - which they did. But little has been said after that due to the fact that he has continued that form and looked more assured.
