Yeah, many people seem to have an understanding that arrogance is simply acting with confidence, rather than acting like an ass. And the idea that somebody would earn the right to act like an ass is pretty stupid, if people take the time to think about it.

Finally,
Thanks Slow Love

If I was an England selector I would look to replace Loye with Collingwood for the next game provided Vaughn is still injured. Perhaps open with Bell or the new guy.
If I was an England selector I'd be getting on the piss:p

How funny would it be if we won this tournament?
Anything can happen if you make those finals. England can obviously make them with three victories - did the Aussies have any more than that when we robbed the Saffies in '98?

Anyhow, should the Poms somehow manage to win this tourney, I'll have Arjuna Ranatunga as my avatar for six months.

Sorry to burst your bubble England but I wouldn't get too excited about beating a team who obviously didn't give a rat's monkey about the result and selected a side accordingly. Well done for winning anyway but prepare to get your asses pumped at the WACA on Tuesday. (I pride myself on my humility)

I was always suspicious of something sinister once Ponting got hurt, and they announced the starting lineup 1 day before the game.

I mean, come on, HIP injury??? And they dont know how he go it?

(Fond memories of me wagging school float through my head. Always picked illness that couldnt be proven :p )

LOL. Definitely a chance we could make the final for sure, but if we do, I very much doubt there will be three finals.

Six months is nonetheless a brave and bold challenge. Mind you, TT Boy took his up for life.

Well done to England for finally conjuring up a victory against Australia, and it wasn't all luck, they were easily the better side on the day. Joyce, Bell & Plunkett were the stand-outs for the men in blue, and Joyce & Plunkett may well've booked their tickets on the plane to the West Indies in March.

From Australia's point of view, whilst Hodge is continually churning the runs out for Victoria, one must wonder if he's ever going to crack it at ODI level. He's got the ability, but questions must be asked about his mental toughness if he continues to fail when he's given an oppurtunity. You'd have to think that if Jaques really finds some OD form for NSW he'd be oh so very close to a World Cup birth thanks to Hodge's failures at the top level.

Shaun Tait looked a little out of his league as well today. Whilst he bowled some good deliveries, there were far to many poor ones, wether we can put taht down to nerves, or just the unpredictability of Tait i guess we don't know, but based on that performance alone, Hilfenhaus SHOULD be ahead of him in terms of World Cup chances.

Can anyone elighten me on the extent of Symonds' injury? All i heard (only got Aust. innings on the radio) was that he retired hurt with an arm injury. I'm hoping it's nothing to serious like a bicep tear, as losing Symonds would put a dent in World Cup preparations.

Ah, yes The Gabba sorry...the scene of Hadlee's 9/52 on his way to 15 wickets. Sorry about that.

So, what have we learnt about team selection?

I still don't want Hayden in there, but Veto vetoed that with his butter fingers. White to be dropped? Tait released, Clark not a likely starter in any important game. Hodge out, never looked the part any way in spite of domestic numbers.

So Ponting and Lee and Johnson come back. Who replaces White? Any specialist no. 7s out there?

Bring back those guys...that's all that needs to be done. Lose White (very, very, very average cricketer, almost in the Shane Watson category ), Hodge and Tait. Pretty straight forward really.

Tait is playing against New Zealand as well, you realise?

The team for the next game will probably include Ponting at the expense of Symonds and have a different bowling lineup, but there'll be no major changes. Hodge will get another game provided Symonds isn't fit, and I'd not be surprised if the attack was Tait, Johnson, Lee (or Clark) and Hogg, with Clarke and White to fill in the other 10.

For the final it'll be a different story, with Tait leaving the squad and Lee/Bracken/McGrath/Johnson being the likely attack. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hodge play the rest of the series though, with Symonds aiming to be fit for the WC.

White will not be dropped until Watson is fit, simple as that. Possibly in the Chappell-Hadlee series, otherwise in the WC. Also, if Symonds is unfit for the C-H series White may play that one as well, as a batsman again with Hodge missing out, even if Watson is fit.

Unfair on Watson because he actually showed some ability for Australia and has a future but Cameron White is currently nothing more than a ubber slogger who did well at Somerset batting on a road. All this talk about him being a decent bowler was a load of bull and that's even before you consider some people said he could be an option to replace Warne ( ). The guy isn't even trusted to bowl ten overs at the moment and his showed on two occasions now that his more than handy coming in for a quick slog in the direction of cow corner but given a situation and a bit of pressure and the only thing he will be doing is offering the wicket keeper some catching practice.

Whippee. Good win for us, even if its in a meaningless match and against a depleted side. Everyone still expected us to be thrashed with that bowling line-up.

Major pluses obviously, Plunkers and Joyce. Which means I could be wrong about my evaluation of both. I would have been quite happy for them both to have been sent home, and never darken international cricket with their presence again. I was even wondering after a few matches whether Joyce would get in the Irish side.

Also good news that Colly didn't play, I'm afraid he wasn't delivering with the bat at all. Think they should keep him on the side-lines, might give him a kick up the backside.

Loyes got to stay, for comedic value alone, not much to laugh at, being an England cricket fan, this winter.
