I think NZ should start playing their first choice side, so in my mind Mills absolutely has to replace Franklin and then it comes down to whether the team thinks they need to play the extra spin of patel or the pace of Gillespie.
Our next match is at the MCG so Im guessing Patel will drop out of the team.

Fleming
Fulton
Taylor
Styris
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Mills
Bond
Gillespie

I know you like to follow Vettori's bowling Jack. What do you make of his current form?
TBH, I haven't seen a lot of the NZ games this year, falling at bad times for me. But what I have seen of Vettori has been really good, I think almost better than the Chappell-Hadlee series out here in 04/05, which was some of the best one day spin bowling I've seen.

Styris is a much better OD bowler than McMillan, and obviously a better batsman.

While Fulton is frustrating due to failing to convert starts, he is the best #3 option. Taylor is better suited to #4, when the ball is not swinging around so much. And Styris is not a top four batsman.

Patel was disappointing last night. What was the SCG pitch like in the test match? Gillespie needs to be brought in for the AUS game, so he can hurry-up Symonds and White.

Bond looked pretty ordinary last night, and he only bowled at 138-145Km/hr. Let's hope he was just working his way back into it.

The big disaster for NZ has been the fall from grace of Hamish Marshall. For 2 seasons he was making the #3 spot his own and right now if he was playing well, our lineup would pretty much be complete.

I think he's gotta forget about the World Cup now because he won't get there. He just needs to forget about playing international cricket for awhile, keep working on his game at Gloucs and hope he gets another chance later in the year. He's shown he can score runs at international level but for whatever reason he really has lost the plot over the last year.

That's what happens when you have a perfectly healthy fast bowler, and then rest him for no reason other than a bit of soreness. Bond's appearances over the last 2 years have been so stop start, I'm amazed he's ever been able to build up any rythym at all. I know everyone's paranoid about his back, but considering there is apparently absolutely nothing wrong with it, Bracewell needs to stop treating him with kid's gloves and just bowl him.

He did seem a bit toothless last night. You've summed up my thoughts well Bahnz

I think Taylor should be batting at three. thats the position he has always played in domestic cricket one dayers and Fulton is not in good nick, so swap them around... I also worry that Fulton is not good enough. Im waiting for the day when the NZ side looks like this..

Fleming
Taylor
Vincent
Styris
Oram

Its pretty suprising that none of the aussie batsmen have been given rest in this series(expect ponting for one game). For the chappell-hadlee series i can only see the squad that will be going to the world cup.

Dunno if this has been mentioned earlier but Nixon Just ****s me now...i did like the kid a bit before as he seemed willing to have a fight etc...but after he edged that one and didnt walk, considering he gave the spray of a lifetime to hussey for the same thing, i dont like the kid...double standards really **** me.

Jacob Oram needs to bat a little higher IMO, hes shown that hes not just a slogger but a batter as well. i think he could easily come in at 4/5 and bat for 30 overs then explode at the end. prob the only player who i would like to have in the aussie team ATM.

Surely Bond and Vettori would make the ODI team...
Nah IMO the side is fine as it is in the bowling...bracken,johnson,mcgrath,lee,clark,hogg, all doing decent...apart from perth. Vettori only just coming good, first 2 games without wickets. bond was pretty average last night. Not sure who id take out for oram.

knew somone would get me on it...

Why would be want Oram?

We've already got Symonds, White and Hussey to score quickly at the end. Oram's a great player, but he wouldn't force anyone out of the current ODI side. Vettori though is a different matter. I'd rather have Vettori in the side than White/Hogg. Bond too would be preferable to Stuart Clark.

Bond in form would make Australia. If he stays relatively injury free he will start to perform better.

Based on current form Oram would kick out White quite easily. But then again, if Oram was Australian he would have never got the opportunity to play international cricket in the first place unless he developed into a better cricketer on the domestic scene.

Probably the same goes for both Vettori & Bond too.....In NZ you are sidetracked into the national side 4-5 years earlier based on your potential, whereas you have to perform domestically to get into Australia.

Just read this in Aussie paper The Age online. Anyone know which "relative newcomer" said this?:

"England's poor body language and shoddy fielding confirmed the comments of a relative newcomer to the team who said this week that he had never played in a more shambolic side"

Having endured the many lows of New Zealand cricket over the years, I find it a little disheartening that Kiwis are rubbishing England at this time.
