Hopefully the innings here has the same effect on hayden that the 143* in the world cup had on symo's odi career.
Totally different circumstances though.

Symonds was a player still learning how to play cricket at international level. He played a great innings under pressure in an important tournament when he was team was in trouble.

Hayden is in the twiligth of his career and cannot actually learn much more. He has been dropped three times and has played in a game with little significance on anything, and one where his team is well on top.

I really wish everyone would stop comparing everything to Symonds's world cup innings when they often have no resemblance at all.

It's murder, really. Call in Barnarby from Midsomer. Ponting will be known as the "WACA Hacker" for the decapitation of the NZ bowling attack.

I was talking about change in hayden's form and attitude for a short period(lets say till the world cup) not 4 years.

Getting these overs in from Oram might be a problem. With 15 overs left, there's 6 from the frontline seamers and five from Vettori and Patel. With the next four overs coming in the power play, Oram and the spinners are going to have to bowl some of them, or bowl at the death.

You think Shane Watson's a better option than Hayden? please stop, my sides are splitting
On batting alone, he probably isn't (although it's closer than one would think.) The bowling and balance to the side he offers though makes him a better overall option. The Australian selectors have agreed when Watson has been fit.

By so far it's not even funny. Let me know when Hayden averages in the teens with the ball for a whole year.

Obviously Hayden is probably a better ODI opener than Watson (although Watson's not really been given a chance yet, unlike Hayden), but when you factor in the other things Watson brings to the team it's not even close.

He offers ****loads more to the Australian ODI team than Hayden does. Aside from what he offers as an overall package, his form as an Opener for Australia had been great, and he'd been giving us what we so dearly required. Someone who could either turn the strike over should Gilly be going off, or take it to the attack himself. Hayden has done nothing of the sort at all since he's returned to the team.

Let me let all of you Aussies into a little secret. Shane Watson is a very, very ordinary cricketer
Right. And that's why he averages 50 with the bat in FC cricket, and took 19 wickets @ 19.16 in ODIs in 2006?

You pretty much have no idea, huh?

He might do that for about 5 games, after which his lack of talent and ability will be found out and he'll be put back on the scrap-heap.

As an afterthought, he showed how mentally weak he is by bawlling like a baby when he got injured last time. At least Hayden is a man.
