Wouldn't be a bad idea at #6, certainly could do better than Oram with the bat, probably not with the ball though. Just a question Bahnz, how did you get to be a CW Staff Member?

I simply applied for a position as a staff member from the "Join the CW Team" page. There's a link to it on the home page.

Looks like all the potential openers are sniffing blood. Jamie How playing well for Central with a good 50, and Michael Papps has made a solid start for Canterbury.

I've always wanted to see Papps open in the ODI's, but the selectors may have trouble trusting him against fast bowlers like Lee given his past. How needs to score consistently to earn himself another chance as far as I'm concerned.

Are you a New Zealander Perm?

If we are going to get technically Voltman, I would agree with Clydevale being rife with the dairy farming immigrants. However on the other side of the river, Greenfield is a stellar community complete with a pub, school, community hall, swimming pool and garage.

:p
Then why have you got an avatar of Adam Gilchrist? That's downright traitorous and pretty much constitutes treason. I mean c'mon, did you lose a bet?

McGlashan for McCullum?

If it wasn't so close to the WC people might be asking for McCullum to step aside for McGlashan. The ND keeper has been on fire with the bat, averaging 63, scoring at a run-a-ball, and coming in first drop.

He's a talented batsman at domestic level (very creative) but looked out of his depth against Sri Lanka.

He only played in 20/20 matches - which means nothing - and I'm sure he was just nervous. I'm not saying he should be selected at this time but is certainly a good back-up, and McCullum should not get complacent. Griggs is also decent with the bat.

Voltman, have you seen Cumming bat recently? Has he made adjustments to his game, which previously appeared to rely on the pull shot? He's scoring more consistently and at a much faster rate this season, so something must have changed.

Nah, sadly I've been stuck up the road in the office. If the Volts get a home semi, I might try and head down to cover it. Even missed him in the televised Twenty20 last week.

How's issues

While it was good to see How make a decent score yesterday I believe he is not well suited to OD cricket because:

- He scores most of his runs in boundaries - from loose bowling. International bowlers don't provide such generous service.
- He doesn't score many singles and fails to rotate the strike, which creates pressure on himself and his opening partner. While his strike rate appears reasonable it is reliant on high proportion of boundaries. McMillan is another with this problem.

Until he resolves this problem he will remain a liability against quality bowling in OD matches, as it make him easy to tie down.

Unfortunately, the inability to rotate the strike is something afflicting our top order at the moment as well. It's something I've noticed ever since the Champions Trophy - we seem to have lost that talent to play with soft hands and have the confidence in the partner at the other end to get through for the single. I guess the constant shuffling doesn't help, and neither does the squad rotation.

Yeah, that's something I've noticed as well and is a major factor in our top order struggles at the moment.
