So...let me get this straight, like Matt52 you don't think Jacob Oram is a genuine all rounder in ODIs despite the fact he bats at 6 and bowls first change
So batting at 6 and bowling first change makes you a genuine allrounder? Dwayne Smith has batted in the top order and bowls first change all the time. He's a bowling allrounder.

As explained by PrinceEWS, Oram is yet to prove himself as much of an ODI batsman.

Since Aussies are already in finals so give young guys a chance.

1.hadiin(w/k) 2.haydos 3.punter 4.clarke 5.roy 6.voges 7.white 8.hilfenhaus 9.johnson 10.bracks 11.binga. Give huss and gill a break i would be even more happy if tait plays for lee coz the match is at adeliade so it would be gr8 for tait to debut on his home ground.Pidge also deserves a break.

What? That's a really bad example. Dwayne Smith's not a bowling all rounder. He's a batting allrounder pushed into the side by Sir Viv himself as a batman because he reminded him of himself. Obviously last night's innings did nothing to convince you or the Prince of Oram's ability with the bat. I've probably seen every innings he's played for NZ and apart from the fact he's not sure how to play Murali (he's not the only one there) he's a more than capable bat and a genuine all rounder. No question.

McMillan a certainty - I think not

I see that many of you now think McMillan is a certainty in the batting line-up. He's only made one good score - after being lucky to not be given out twice before he had score 10 runs. He needs to score a lot more runs before he should be considered for the WC. It would be crazy to drop Fulton for him when Styris comes back. Fulton is only a game or two away from a decent score, and he's the solid player we need at #3, considering our opening problems.

Fulton hasn't convinced me he's really up to it yet. We know McMillan is capable of run-a-ball high scores. It's more a case of "Better the devil you know" I think but Fulton could prove me wrong if he manages to string together some good performances

Ridiculous. Dwayne Smith came into the side as a batting allrounder. Now he bats at 8, bowls first change or opens the bowling and often bowls most of his overs.

Wow. One innings? Stunning! By that sort of measure, Dwayne Smith is a Test class batsman. 8-)

And yet it's fascinating the way he fails to score runs then. Funny, ey?

Have to concede I didn't realise Smith had been pushed that far down the order at times. Gees I'm looking forward to Oram continuing on with last nights form just so I can thumb my nose at people like you who underrate him so much.

No-ones underrating him, they're simply saying he hasn't proven that he's a Genuine allrounder in ODI's, how freaking hard is that to understand.

Styris will come straight back into the team when he's fit. I'd like to think he'd replace McMillan, but...

I completely understand that Clapo. Saying that he has not a proven himself as a genuine ODI all rounder IS underrating him as far as I'm concerned. That's my opinion that I'm entitled to. Don't assume you know what I do and don't understand please.

Oram is not an allrounder in the one-day game at international level. Would you pick him on his batting alone? No. His bowling? Yeah, probably.

But he has the potential to become a true allrounder.

Yes, I would pick him on his batting alone

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Haha, in the paper today (the paper we get from Sydney is an early release so only has the first innings score from day nighters) saying how NZ were easy pickings for England after bowling them out for 210. What amused me most though was a line about NZ's batting line up.

"The veterans are weary cogs in an ageing top order"

Ages:
Astle - 35
Fleming - 33
Fulton - 27
Taylor - 22

Maybe they should've said "ageing opening combination" to save some embarrassment.

Glad you're not a selector, let's face it Jacob Oram's batting has been pretty crap at ODI level but I still feel he is the best person in NZ to bat at #6 because he adds balance to the team.

So you're saying your glad I'm not a selector but you would have him at 6. Wouldn't that make us both bad selectors?

No, he's saying that he wouldn't select him at 6, if he couldn't bowl. Because he can though, Perm would select him. That's why he adds "balance" to the team.
