I think I would prefer Vincent to open over Cumming in ODIs in Australia. He's suited to Australian pitches having grown up on them and is a more explosive player. Cumming's batting just seems a bit, I don't know, blah (can't think of a better word) to me. Having Vincent opening means McCullum can go back down the order and you would be replacing him with a similar type player to get the innings off to a flyer. Having said that, it is a bit of a shame we have to resort to bring back guys like Vincent and McMillan really. Means others haven't been taking their opportunities.
In my ODI team I would have neither at the moment, I'm just pointing out that Cumming has been scoring runs more consistently than Vincent which should count for more. Actually it shows the lack of trust and faith that John Bracewell and the selectors are placing in domestic players who have been scoring runs, which is a shame because if they get disheartened by not being selected after scoring runs then a good talent has been wasted. Also to be fair, McMillan's inclusion was justified on the back of scoring quite a few runs for Canterbury earlier in the season.

Just looked at cricinfo's ballbyball commentary - ugh. Lee's face must have been a picture when Loye swept him on one knee for 6, but apart from that it's just horrible. Another idiotic runout. Another massive contribution from Collingwood. Joyce palpably out of his depth.
Can Stauss consider himself unlucky to fall to a catch like that? Poor sod is having a bit of a run, isn't he.

So how long do we reckon it'll take Aus to knock off the runs. I reckon they'll try for 20 overs if they get a start.
And to think Fuller considers Richard to be one of the most negative people on here!

Haha just watching the highlights again on the news. White's run-out, hope it's on youtube soon so everyone can see it.

Great day for Victorians all round.

I'm just saying it's a shame that others haven't taken their chances and we've had to go back to him. Also, he wouldn't have made the squad if Stryis or Oram were fit

God Bill Lawry is such a cheerleader for the Australians. Everything the Aussies do is either "Brilliant", "Wonderful", "Magnificent" or "Beautiful". The batsman just took a risk-free easy leg-bye and he's wanks on about it being "Brilliant running". Pull your head in a bit Bill.
Doesn't Cameron White look like a typical arrogant Aussie prick. I look at him and just want to punch him in the face for some reason. Do I need counselling?

Tbf, that's Lawry's job. As has been mentioned it's his role in the box to be biased. And if you think he's bad regarding Australians, you should hear him talk about Victorians.

So you think it's in his contract or job description to throw out superlatives when describing ordinary pieces of standard cricket? His job is to commentate intelligently on the game. It diminishes his credibility.

While I'm in this negative frame of mind. What do the English selectors see in Dalrymple that I cant? He doesn't seem to be able to bat, bowl, field or throw. Lewis looks like a club cricketer to me too

Haha what? Everyone in the box has a distinct role, they're not supposed to be all the same and Lawry has the cheerleader job. Don't know what it being written explicitly in his contract has to do with anything. Nine have the box set up that way, not too hard to understand.

His job isn't to "commentate intelligently", his job is to generate excitement. That’s a well known fact.

Well I don't like my cricket intelligence being insulted. Maybe he's good for kids and people new to the game but he frustrates the hell out of me at times.

And in response to "His job isn't to "commentate intelligently". That's rubbish. Of course that's part of his job.

Yeah, I agree he's annoying, they all are. But as I think Matt79 mentioned yesterday they aren't there for us cricket tragics, they are there to appeal to the masses and increase ratings and revenue for Channel 9.

Well isn't that disappointing Hodgey.

You cannot justify his selection in ODI team now. Playing well in the Ford Ranger Cup, but he's had many opportunities in the pyjama clothing at int'l level and failed to deliver.

He's going way OTT in trying to achieve that then

Get amongst them England, c'mon!

Just make it remotely interesting so I don't have to revise. :D
