Yeah I love Asif as well. It's disappointing that his image has been tarnished in such a way. Hopefully the decision is reversed and he serves a ban and then returns clean.

Yep, I'd respect him infinitely more if he did his time and came back stronger.. It's not his fault his sentence was lenient, but it was his fault he took the drugs in the first place..

Worryingly, we seem to be the only people left on earth who care about Asif and his possible integrity (or otherwise).. Nobody is talking about it on the commentary, nobody on Cricinfo, nothing from the crowd, nothing in the papers.. I guess nobody cares?

Not a "wide" but too wide to play at

Kallis' shot was possibly the most lame dismissal I've seen him succumb to in test cricket - short, wide, medium paced nothing ball

That's why Jackman declared that he wouldnt want to see that replay
 Fair point.

The commentators on cricinfo and other online sites have probably been told not to mention it, otherwise they'd get a deluge of complaints from rabid Pakistan fans and their persecution complex (not seen any such fans posting in this thread over the last few pages I've seen thankfully).

As for the papers I'm sure they'll mention it if Asif plays a part in Pakistan winning.

yea i just won't like it when people say.. "he should be banned" which is true... i'd really love it if he would serve his ban [not his fault of course] and then come back strongly... which i reckon he would anyway because hes just got an awesome action

i dread the day he bowls to Australia

and interestingly the crowd doesn't seem to be stuck into him.. however i hear when he got out to bat Smith had a word with him?

Regarding the Gibbs not out decision, I had the impression that the third umpire was only allowed to decide whether the catch had been taken cleanly, no whether the batsman hit it or not.

Then they put the relevant rule on TV which says something like "the third umpire will rule not out if he feels the batsman has not hit the ball".

... which leads to the question: "Does that mean all caught-out decisions can be referred to the third umpire?".

That would be ridiculous.

He's tired and less than full speed already. You don't need to over bowl him. He'll start off with the new ball tomorrow morning.

Can only be referred for bump-balls but if it's obvious that batsman didn't hit it then the umpire can say not out anyway. This is according to Cricinfo.

"The third umpire has to determine whether the, ball was a bump ball or not. However, when reviewing the television replay(s), if it is clear to the third umpire that the batsman did not hit the ball, he shall indicate that the batsman is not out."

Well that's stumps. SA 254/4, trail by only 59 runs. They are in control of the match. One can only marvel at the talent of Asif. What would've happened to Pakistan if he was not playing this game? It is obvious from some of the comments on this board that Asif will not soon live down the doping scandal. Every time he takes a wicket or has a good game, someone will likely comment on how he's a cheat and shouldn't be playing. He brought it upon himself I suppose.
Anyway, so maddening that no other bowler can step up to the plate and take a damn wicket!!
