Its always good to look to the future, but when someone is clearly your best bowler and he's been the one thats clearly been doing the most against the opposition, there is no reason not to open with him.Opening with Steyn makes sense in terms of the future, but not when you're going into the final test all tied up. India have managed to own themselves against the new ball anyways, so it hasn't exactly hurt SA in this series.
Fair point that it hasn't hurt them as much, but IMO with Pollock they could have had even bigger rewards. 30-40 less runs per innings in the first match is a big thing.
