Haha. There is really nothing funnier than people that can't tell the difference between test performances and ODI performaces.

Stuart Clark - 25 wickets in 18 ODIs @ 33 (5.5 RPO)
= solid backup, if not a bit over-rated

Mitchell Johnson - 14 wickets in 10 ODIs @ 25.78 (5.15 RPO)
= gun start to ODI career
Obviously they are different formats, but there's nothing new about making selection decisions across both of them. Clark has bowled well enough this summer to walk into the rotation for the ODI team if he wasn't there already, and certainly he's improved enough that I think it will carry over into improved ODI performances as well. Lee, McGrath, Bracken, Clark, Johnson and Hogg will be the bowlers used, and I'd fully expect Clark to do pretty well based on the way he has bowled of late.

They'll all go to the World Cup as well.

Is it not worth considering where they've played those games though to be fair.

IIRC, Johnson didn't play the SA series with the 400+ scores in, but did play the CT where runs were a lot harder to come by...

There was only one high scoring game in that SA series really. The rest of the series was pretty good score wise. No other scores over 300 that I can remember.

There's no doubt that Johnson's ODI bowling has been better so far from a very limited selection for both players, but I don't think that'll have a huge bearing on selection for the World Cup. Clark's in top form and will get a decent run in the CB series, and if he bowls well he'll be one of the top four seamers for the WC.

Johnson did play in that series anyway, but he only played the first game where Smith scored a hundred. He got thrashed for 3 overs and didn't come back in the match or the series IIRC.

A fair few runs were also scored in the NZ series where Johnson debuted.

Not real surprises except for the fact that McMillan is in for James Marshall, and I think that is definitely the right move anyway.

Definately good to see James Marshall out, although the general public that don't know too much about cricket aren't very happy that McMillan is back in, "he's had his chance and failed" is one thing I've heard.

an interesting thing I spotted on the news tonight, Hamish Marshall has been named as back-up keeper for the series in case McCullum is injured. This just continues with the weird rationale that the selectors have maintained this season.

Didn't realise Hamish Marshall ever kept wicket, mind you he is the least likely to bowl out of our batsman (Fleming excluded).

That's just stupid. I don't think he's ever kept in a domestic game. But surely that would only be if McCullum was injured during a game...

The aussie VB squad will be named on the 13th of january, selectors needing extra time to pick the squad:cool: .

I remember McMillan doing some keeping at one stage if I'm not mistaken. Never knew Marshall could do it though.

They could have just chosen Sinclair, Vincent or Papps in front of McMillan which would have solved everything... but no.

Yeah i agree.....its almost as if they are tking a step backwards with McMillan. I like the guy, but he is as frustrating as he is entertaining.

Sinclair, Vincent and Papps got their chances to prove but didn't perform. McMillan is the better option when playing against AUS. His experience will do lot of good to the team in the middle order

I think its fair that you say Sincalir has had his chance but Papps has played 6 matches at an average of 51.75......Mcmillan averages 21 against Australia, hardly the rock in the middle order NZ need???
