They'd probably give Hayden another chance before they picked someone like Klinger. Hayden did well in the Champions Trophy and It's not like Klinger is young either.
Klinger is only 26.....

Voges not had much game time of late except a pura cup where he failed twice, since he was selected in the test squad.
The 20/20 games will be the last chances for players to impress, haydens' 150 will go a long way too him being selected.
Don't think jaques will be given a call.
Down to voges and white for the no 7 position, whites bowling and batting lately has heighetened his chances of being selected.Voges bowling has not kicked on after a good start in the first ford game this year.

See, I would have Dalrymple at no.3 because if he can get of 0, he will get you a decent total to kick start, or even rebuild the innings

Yea, at this stage Hayden should definately be picked to partner Gilly since he's the man in form. No worries about his age he's performing and thats all that matters.

Funny thing is hayden probably will be picked for the vb series and the world cup and then retire after the world cup anyway so whats the point of picking him  .
Do they name the one day team at the end of the 5 test test or before,i see no problems in them naming it now as the series is over and england has named theirs.

To help win the world cup, obviously.

I'd be disappointed if they picked Hayden. He's a decent ODI batsman and all but I think there's better options around who are just as likely to have an impact in the WC and will continue on for years to come. Watson opening in the WC is a reasonable option, but if they put him down to 4 or so I'd go in with Jaques.

Yes I agree Jaques is a much better option at the top of the order and it's a decent way to ease himself into international cricket and will not cause such a headache if Hayden and Langer retire at the same time as Jaques would have had a fair bit of international cricket at that point in time. Be it one or two years who knows.

they better not pick hayden.. one of the most overated ODI batsman ever imo.
Well Jaques is in he middle of a disgracefully bad patch of form and Hayden did well in the DLF Cup so it'll be him IMO.

Surely Jaques's previous form has to count for something though.
If he can't score runs for NSW at the moment, I don't see him scoring many for Australia.

I usually back out of form players with proven abilities to pull out of it when they are in the team already and are under pressure from media/fans, but it's an entirely different situation when a player is on the outside trying to get in. Hayden, Katich and even Hopes have more of a chance of getting first crack in the CB series than Jaques IMO, unless Jaques can show something for NSW in a hurry.

Isn't Hussey a bit low down?? I'd have Hussey at 4, Clarke at 5 and Symonds 6.

Hussey usually bats quite low down in ODIs doesn't he? That's why he's only got one ton, no?

Hussey down the order is perfect IMO. He's the best finisher in ODIs since Michael Bevan, simple as that. I'm sure he'd do fine up the order too, but there are other players who can play there. Symonds would probably benefit most from being at 4.

I think Jaques should open, but I've still got a feeling they might go with Hopes as the direct swap for Watson. They'll want to pick him, and having him at 7 when he's been batting at the top of the order for Queensland would be a poor move. For the other options as opener, Hayden would be a step back, and Jaques isn't in form. Katich did okay and is in reasonable touch but I would be surprised if they recalled him.

They'll want to stick with a similar balance to the side, which means either Hopes or White will be picked, but probably not both of them. So if Hopes does come in and open it leaves a spot in the middle order that will probably be filled by Voges, based on the signals the selectors gave during the test series. If White is picked they'll have to pick Hayden or Jaques to open and bat White at 7.

Interesting selection dilemmas anyway. It's pretty hard to guess exactly where they'll go.

Having Symonds at 4 might expose him to the new, swinging & seaming ball, would you want that? Hussey is far better equipped to cope.

Symonds is the best ODI batsman in the world. And has often scored big when early wickets have fallen. He should be given the first chance for the #4 spot. If it doesn't work, then mix it around.

In that case, why pick McGrath?
