I would have barfed if I knew Craig McMillan was going to play again for NZ 1 year ago, but his selection is justified.
Who knows, maybe he's been burnt abbit too much for his liking, being out of the international side for so long. As a result he will be more responsible, value his wicket more.....bat more as a specialist batsman. I always thought he had the potential to be a good player if he consigned himself to playing in the 'V' early on in his innings.
The Napier ODI was a success to me, even after the bowling display. For a guy like Ross Taylor to prove himself to the selectors, thus guarantee selection for the rest of the series and probably the Commonwealth ODI series in Aus, is a big positive. He need a positive player in our side.
Just kick out J Marshall (just because your identical twin can bat at international level without a decent 1st class career doesn't me you can), and A Adams who seems to bowl too short and can't bowl at the death (I'm not sure why he was labelled a 'death' specialist, he doesn't have a length at all).
I think Mason should be given another chance, and certainly Gillespie can bowl...(take out his no ball problem and his first 2 overs, then you have potential).
Franklin can't bowl in ODIs unfortunaly, but will be selected in our side no matter what. (Fleming & Bracewell: he's a guy for the future). I wouldn't mind either O'Brien or later on Tuffey when he was match practice to be given a go too, but it's getting a bit too close to try much more.....we need a settled side soon. After all if we can't find a fourth seamer behind Oram/Bond/Mills then we should definately play Patel in every match, even if it's not a pitch suited to seam bowling. If he's the better bowler, then he should be given a chance.
