Nah that person is correct.

Super 8 (Group B)
England
South Africa
West Indies
Pakistan

Only two teams out of the four above can make the semis.
Nah, Vaughan selected Aus, Eng, WI and SA as final 4. Aus and Eng must be in different groups and as long as SA and WI finish the same rank in groups C and D they will also be in different groups (easy to assume Vaughan has WI going C1 seeing as they're in his top 4).

Group 1
A1
B2 - Australia (or England)
C1 - West Indies
D2

Group 2
A2
B1 - England (or Australia)
C2
D1 - South Africa

I think a lot of people are not aware that the seeds are pre-fixed! (and they do not depend on what position you finish in the original four groups)

So it doesn't matter whether England finishes 1st or 2nd, their seed will remain as B1.

India is A1
Pakistan is A2
England is B1
Australia is B2
New Zealand is C1
West Indies is C2
South Africa is D1
Sri Lanka is D2

In case a team doesn't make it out of the initial group, then the team that replaces it will take over its seed. For example, if Netherlands come 1st and SA come 2nd in Group D, then Netherlands will take SL's seed of D2 and SA regardless of coming 2nd will remain D1.

So no matter what, the super 8 groups can't change (except that a weaker team can replace the original seeds).

Super 8 Group A-
Ind
Aus
NZ
SL

Super 8 Group B-
Pak
Eng
WI
SA

So yeah its 100% impossible for all 3 of Eng, WI and SA to make the semis, as they are in the same super 8 group.

Well that's a pretty crap rule. So Australia can win all 4 games of first round while England win two but England remains top seed. Ridiculous!

This also means we already know Australia will be playing India, SL and NZ in the Super 8 round, while England are playing WI, SA and Pak. Boring concept!

When Aus win this, they'll simultaneously hold every men's and women's ICC trophy. Cute.

Lol @ the Champions Trophy. The Claytons WC.

If they had a real CT between the holders of all the ICC trophies, then after this T20 event Aus could hold it as a centre wicket practice.

Yeah it's lame.

The point is to sell 2nd round tickets by giving people a way to know which teams are playing.

Hasn't scored a 50 in last 10 T20i, and has only one fifty in last 34 matches (since March 2021). It was a 59* off only 18 balls though
He can be a decent #4 for you but he is not a 5-7 finisher.
@Burgey just to clarify, stoinis has made 600 runs in 26 innings at an average of 34 and a SR of 155 in t20I since the start of the 2021 WC. He's been great in this format batting 5. No idea why QLDer has decided the value of a t20 #5 is there ability to make 50's.

Shame this is being played in the WI. Normally i'de expect Scotland or Namibia to have a half chance of upsetting Australia/England in a series like this, but from what i've seen the windies decks are either roads or slower spin decks, and american decks have been more batting friendly. Don't think Scotland or Namibia have the batting or spinners to really cause a massive upset in this group.

Sadly shows what a joke T20 is when a #5 batsman who doesn't score 50's is considered a success
Australia have fielded a side that has a keeper bat at 7 for 3 years now. Where sacrificing a stronger 5th bowler for more batting. Stoinis hitting 30-40 at a sr of 150 is completely fine in that context.

the average no 5 in t20s internationally among test teams faces around 14-15 balls on average in the last 4 years

if you expect consistent 50s from 15 balls then the joke is on you

It means that teams and fans can prebook flights and accommodation (and tickets for fans) for matches (which can be cancelled/sold etc. if they don't get through initial pool play). That is especially important for a tournament with matches in multiple countries.

I'd like to see proof of that. That means sides are generally only 3 wkts down at 15-16 overs for that to be true (looking at his last 10 games Stoinis generally comes in before 7th over)

And yet David who always bats below Stoinis has 6 fifties in 36 innings, while Stoinis has only 2 fifties in 49 innings

David has two fifties in 22 innings for Australia. Those 4 other ones came batting 3 for singapore ages ago. Both of them are good, david faces more balls in overs 16-20 where your expected to score faster so his sr is 165 not 155.
