October 2006: H Jenkins (Western Australia) Player of the Month for October goes to H Jenkins of Western Australia. His performances in first class cricket for the Warriors was outstanding highlighted by his player of the week performance in round ten when he took 10 wickets and also scored a century batting down the order. His performance in the draw with Western Province is arguably the best all round performance in WCC history and WA will need him to continue like that for the rest of the season if they are to get positive results. Jenkins also took a six wicket haul in the loss to Tamil Nadu in the round before.
His One Day performances have been reasonable, an economical spell in the round nine clash wasnt enough to get his team home against Lancashire, while a good three wicket effort in round ten was also to no avail as his side were easily beaten by Mumbai. Jenkins fine all round performances make him a deserving winner of this months award.
Previous Winners September 2006: T Binny (South Australia) August 2006: C Vaughan (Leicestershire) July 2006: D Leverock (Auckland)
Manager of the Month
October 2006: Tharmi Loganathan (Colts) Under Loganathan Colts went unbeaten through the month of October to cement their positions near the top of both competitions. After starting the season as One Day favourites their chances seem to have disappeared after a slow start but two big wins in October has gotten their season back on Track. Lead by a five wicket haul to captain Lennox Cush in round 9 a big win over South Australia was followed up by an Andrew Tweedie inspired victory two weeks later over Leicestershire. Tweedie was comprehensively voted player of the round for WCC and his form has finally returned to that of his debut season With ACT.
First Class cricket was a bit tougher for Colts in October but a win and a draw showed they dont give in. A ten wicket win in round nine over Mumbai was one of their better showings of the season in the longer form. Young bowler M Madugalle put in his best game of the season to take ten wickets for the game, solid contributions from all the batsmen put Colts in the box seat, openers Ali and Phillips were the pick of them. A round ten draw against Tasmania was a disapointing result, Madugalle again with some wickets was the star performer with the ball while rookie batsman T Alwis and Ian Bell showed some glimpses of brilliance with the bat.
Overall a good month of cricket for Loganathan and his side.
