He was on Breakfast with Frost a few weeks back, and seemed to intimate that he hadn't definitely turned his back on the game.

Well age is definitely on his side, and with a bit of luck, Mugabe wont be around for too long

If I was in a shop and there was a choice of training shoes that weren't made in sweatshops by multinationals then I would by them. but i just dont have that option. so i cover the brands with tape...

if i had an option i wouldnt wear them. i just havent found an alternative after lots of web searching.

i certainly wouldnt endorse them. which was my main point.

Dont agree with you there, although the coniditions are pretty appaling, without the work provided by these multinationals you so despise, the unskilled workforce would simply starve as their is no help or benifits system in many of these countries...

So you are not supporting those kinds of things , but you still buy the shoes , indirectly giving profit to the companies , so then what use is there of covering the shoes ?

Yep, isn't child labour wonderful?

While we're at it, why don't we build some workhouses in these LEDCs, too?

(Oh and Kim, if you look hard enough there are plenty of shops you can get trainers which aren't made by multinationals)

I actually have nothing against the multinationals producing their product in third world countries, the employment is good for the people. But the only reason they do it is cos its cheap and they can treat the workers like ****. If they treated them properly and paid them enough to live on I would be all for it...

I have read (from sources such as john pilger) that in some factories they dont let them goto the toilet, they have to **** themselves.

Oh and Neil... where? certainly weren't any places in NZ. I kind of got excited when Canterbury started making rugby boots, I thought they might move on to trainers too, but it seems not. Anyway, unlike the clothes which are made in NZ, the shoes are made offshore which i am guessing means just like Nike...

Please point me in the right direction. They have to be good shoes too though because I'm playing a high level of sport... can't go stuffing my feet now can I. For now I just have to keep the plasters over the tick...

On a more serious note......would you buy the trainers if they said made in UK (that's an example because I gather you are still in England?) but were a multi-national company? There aren't many decent companies that aren't multi-national because if they are good then they go multi-national.

Read it yesterday, thought about it, put it on one side because it's from the Observer and therefore not worth the paper it's printed on.

Too much conjecture in the article for me. I'm not saying it's wrong - just on the 'pending' pile (alongside "WMD - is Tony Blair a pathological liar?", "The Loch Ness Monster mystery - Edinburgh University rag week prank or Glasgow University rag week prank?" and of course "Shane. Is there a place for mums in sport?")

Saying that, it was written by a journalist who was thrown out of Zimbabwe last week. I'd be interested to hear what Henry's got to say about it. I'll be listening to the commentary today with interest.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I've been saying it for months, anyway.

How else would Matsikenyeri and Sibanda be anywhere near the touring party?

well,in my view the zimbabweans are having to much to think about due to their politics so they should for a while take some rest at some place far from home even England but not for playing cricket but for relaxing.Their bad form is oly the concequence of tension at home.:ninja:

Actually, I think their bad form is due to a general lack of talent and experience in the team, especially without Andy Flower, Olonga, Goodwin, Whittall, Campbell, Johnson and Paul Strang.

BTW, welcome to the Cricket Web Forum Shivankit. :)

I agree with Liam, they can't blame these performances solely on politics.
I'm just surprised that no-one from the Zimbabwe Cricket Union has thought to blame anti-Mugabe influences for undermining confidence.

It's obvious that it's all the fault of the traitors Tzvangirai and Ncube (and Vermeulen), and that if they had given 100% support to their fairly re-elected glorious leader, Zimbabwe would be ranked above Australia.
