Zaheer Khan likely to play for surrey

LankanPrince

School Boy/Girl Captain
I really hope Zaheer can regain his fitness for Asia Cup 2004. The Indian pace attack will be red hot if Zaheer is fully fit and is backed up by Irfan Pathan, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Ashish Nehra. It looks one of Asia's best bowling attacks on sub-continent pitches. I think Anil Kumble will find it very difficult to find a spot back in the ODI team with the high level of competition for bowling positions. He lost his killer edge a few years back and looks a humble second to Harbhajan as India's no 1 spinner.

However as far as spin is concerned there is no competition, Murali is going to dominate the Asia Cup. The only guy how I have a feeling will be able to resist Murali, is Sachin (such an annoying guy!). I believe Sri Lanka's bowling attack is the second strongest but I worry about our frail batting at ODI level. Jayasuriya and Atapattu are really past their best. We have become reliant on late order players like Zoysa and Chandana to boost our scores whilst the once great Sri Lankan middle order has declined. If the likes of Sangakkara, Jayawardene hit their best form in the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka will be a batting force that will destroy the likes of UAE, Hong Kong and Bangladesh! Watch out India, Pakistan your going to experience the reincarnation of Sri Lanka's golden age of cricket! :D

International Captain
Unfortunately Zaheer is fragile as they come, but its a blessing in disguise as it has allowed Pathan and Balaji to remain in the squad.

If Zaheer keeps breaking down like this, he'll have to kiss his international career goodbye. :(
