He averaged 37-38 opening in the 2013 ashes, but with about half his runs coming in one innings. Including his 70-odd opening the other day, he now averages 41.70 as an opener. He's certainly not the worst opener ever, but I'm surprised to see so many people picking him as such. It's weird so many are opening with Root above Warner. He's not an opener, tried it a few years back and wasn't very successful at it if my memory serves.
why not just have both? Why are people picking Ashwin over Yasir based on batting when they are picking sides with Warner, Root, Kohli, Smith, Williamson etc etc?
Probably because differentiating them in terms of their bowling is rather hard, (if anything Ashwin is a bit ahead due to his recent home exploits). So you might as well go for the guy who can get you some clutch runs. Why are people picking Ashwin over Yasir based on batting when they are picking sides with Warner, Root, Kohli, Smith, Williamson etc etc?
Aren't Rabada and Broad clearly above Hazlewood?Vijay

Maybe they're better. Don't think it's clear though.Aren't Rabada and Broad clearly above Hazlewood?
Cummins is better than the lotAren't Rabada and Broad clearly above Hazlewood?
Picked Amla to openLooks like from just about everyone here the Fab 4 have now officially overtaken the previous top dogs. Don't think I've seen any one name Amla or Younus.
Not saying it's wrong....just interesting.
Yeah, picking purely on recent games and the last year or so, Amla and Younis might not get in.Looks like from just about everyone here the Fab 4 have now officially overtaken the previous top dogs. Don't think I've seen any one name Amla or Younus.
