The umpiring was god-awful not to mention Saqlain missing 2 easy runouts in the final moments. :@
This defeat still hurts after 5 yrs.

Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra.

Seriously, not that they probably ever put on any massive stands, I used to love it when Slater and Blewett opened together - my two favourite players at the time.

If you ask me, the most crucial knock in the match was Hussain's hundred in the 1st innings...England were in serious trouble & had Hussain not scored that century then that probably would have been the 98 runs difference NZ needed to win the match.
It was a bizarre pitch because the 1st 2 days were pretty tricky for the batsmen, but after that it flattened out and things really took off.

Azhar and Tendulkar in Cape Town 96 for me too. I think they scored sumthin like 190 in the session after lunch!!

Oops, actually I meant the first ODI at Karachi, chasing 340+. Sorry for not being clear enough. :p

Yeah, that WI defeat still smarts. The umpiring was godawful.

Ah okay thought you may have meant their partnership in the 1st test of 2005 or the 2nd test of 2004 which whilst it was their typical 100+ run partnerships it wasn't anything special between them. Their partnership in that Karachi one-dayer though was definitely special.

I was about to right the same! :)

My favourite one as well. Brutal, yet classic.
Exactly, everything was just so right..the quality of the Saffie attack (Klusener was at his peak too), the hopeless situation India were in, the unexpectedness of the manner in which they set out to dismantle the bowling attack...words arent enough. If match situations are not a consideration, that partnership easily ranks above both the Laxman-Dravid ones personally. Tendulkar + Azza = bellissima!

I loved Blewy too, his front foot pulls were spectacular. My favourite Blewett partnership was his massive one with Steve Waugh in SA. He looked a million bucks then.

Apparently the Pommy Newspapers had already written up that they had won the test.

Suck that they won the second and third...:@
