Your Country's Alltime XI

I get the impression from what I have read and seen Turner was not a Team man...was all for the individual..correct me if i am wrong
Yeah he was a bit selfish at times but he pathed the way for other cricketers in NZ to go professional and performed very well when he did play. One of the most underated one day players of all time too

I find it interesting when picking these teams, people always seem to prefer players from bygone era's to the more recent ones, seemingley for the sake of it or to make the team look more balanced lol.

A couple of examples - Rohan Kanhai over Brian Lara (Kanhai was certainly well regarded and has an impressive test record but I cant comprehend him being a better player than Lara)

Mark Taylor over Matthew Hayden - (Seems to be lots of Hayden bashing on these forums lol, I know Taylor played majority of his carear against better attacks but he never dominated bowlers to the extent Hayden did or scored so prolifically for as long)

Rohan Kanhai was a "pretty" batsman..elegant strokemaker, moreso than Lara, and was not intimidated by any bowler where as Lara admittedly towards the end of his career became a "bunny" for some bowlers..eg McGrath. Khanhai in full flight was a joy to behold ( and I have seen both of them in full cry)

I like this one and just for sheer guts and fitness, I'll have Ntini for 12th man.

Does anyone remember Taylor? I know SF Barnes rated him very highly

Hey man, Kanhai owns Lara. Kanhai was a beautiful stroke maker. Sure, his high score was less than 300. Whatever, he has the ability to cut up any bowler!

I stand by my XI. I may have been a bit biased towards including Guyanese players (heh heh) but I still think it's a fine XI. i hope...

Alas! Since this is for a country XI, I guess I'll make a Guyana XI!

1. Clive Lloyd*
2. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
3. Carl Hooper
4. Rohan Kanhai
5. Ramnaresh Sarwan
6. Roger Harper
7. Ivor Mendonca (Wk)
8. Mahendra Nagamootoo

I guess the only quality players left are Asif (questionable), Gul (questionable) and maybe people like danesh kaneria

in the 3rd Xi, the only quality players are Mushtaq, Khan and Saeed Ahmad with Tauseef Ahmad being pretty handy as well.

No Neil Johnson? I always thought he was a much better player than the stats may suggest. Shame he retired so early. I thought he was a better player than Guy Whittall anyway. Alastair Campbell is the only other decent rival for the captaincy position. Not much to choose between him and Fletcher in my opinion.

Adam Huckle could come in for Brandes on a spinning wicket - depending on whether you'd care to have two leggies in the same side. In an ODI, there's no need for Ray Price to be twelfth man when you can call on Grant Flower's non-spinning spinners, so could be that your twelfth man should be the best fielder - possibly Sean Ervine? Also in ODIs, Arnott would be out of the question... I may even be so bold as to suggest Brendan Taylor in that format... Not the most technically adept, but certainly a good clean hitter of a ball.

The Wheel is Forever
Azharuddin on foreign tracks? Ravi Shastri as an opener? Javagal Srinath? Remember, this would face the 2nd xi from other countries.

A second XI batting lineup for Australia might be: Hayden, Harvey, Ponting, Waugh, Border. Yea, Srinath is going to do real well...

And Azhar facing Spofforth, Davidson, Lindwall? Especially in Australia? Actually, that line up is probably inferior to the one we have now.

Fair enough. One poor overseas batsman. Replace him with Vengsarkar if needed.

Shastri averaged 44 as an opener in 17 tests - he did well in Australia and England.

Javagal Srinath?
You called the Pakistan 2nd XI decent and this one dire. That's what I'm contesting. Don't bring the Aussies into it.
