Your countries worst XI this century

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
Anyone who has played since 1 Jan 2001 is eligible.

1. Rob Quiney
2. Matthew Elliott
3. Alex Doolan
4. George Bailey
5. Callum Ferguson
6. Nic Maddinson
7. Graham Manou
8. Xavier Doherty
9. Bryce McGain
10. Brad Williams
11. Shaun Tait

- I wanted the team to be as releastic as possible which is why I only went for two spinners.

- Tait was picked more on the output vs ceiling debate. In another world you'd think Tait could have gotten 250 wickets at 26, not 5 wickets at 60.

- Williams is unlucky. I nearly went George and looked at McKay, Mennie and Hastings too.

- Elliott was picked because he randomly came back for a test this century and made 1 run across two innings.

- Maddinson of course could get off the list, but for now he is a good option at 6.

Sadagopan Ramesh
Abhinav Mukund
Hemang Badani
Mohammad Kaif
Suresh Raina
Stuart Binny
Sameer Dighe
Ramesh Powar
Karn Sharma
VRV Singh
Tinu Yohannan

- Ramesh for his record since Jan 2001
- Honestly it could easily be few other fast bowlers replacing the two i've picked
- Not many middle order players have represented India during this period for obvious reasons

1. Adam Lyth - 265 runs at 20.58
2. Ed Smith - 87 runs at 17.40
3. Ravi Bopara - 575 runs at 31.94, 1 wicket at 290
4. James Vince - 212 runs at 19.27
5. Usman Afzaal - 83 runs at 16.60
6. Samit Patel - 151 runs at 16.77, 7 wickets at 60.14
7. Geriant Jones - 960 runs at 26.66, endless dropped catches
8. Zafar Ansari - 49 runs at 9.80, 5 wickets at 55
9. Saj Mahmood - 20 wickets at 38.10
10. Boyd Rankin - 1 wicket at 81
11. Amjad Khan - 1 wicket at 122

Saj Mahmood probably doesn't deserve to be here given that he actually took some wickets but 10 years on I continue to be offended by his selection over Anderson

I'd put in Unadkat and rp Singh for powar and Karn. Just feels right to have as many crap fast bowlers in the team as possible.

RP Singh was actually useful in England the first time round. Karn definitely deserves his spot.

Like the cut of the Noofers XI, would add only one thing

1. Rob Quiney
2. Matthew Elliott
3. Alex Doolan
4. Mitch Marsh (For just the pure disappointment and hackfraudery thus far)
5. Callum Ferguson
6. Nic Maddinson (I'd put Maxwell before Maddinson's debut just for his UAE effort)
7. Graham Manou
8. Xavier Doherty
9. Bryce McGain
10. Brad Williams
11. Shaun Tait

Englishman
Nick Knight to open, IMHO. 5 tests, 134 runs at 14.88.

Plus IDK Salisbury must be the slow bowler; 3 tests, 1 wicket @ 193.

EDIT: bugger. See fred ' s point now.

If this is just for tests then fine but if your looking at an XI of players who have played across the board for England, there have been worse openers. Didnt Knight have a pretty good time in the ODIs?

If there was a tournament where these worst XIs played each other, Guptill would be Bradmanesque imo.

- mad dog (and maxwell and faulkner) wasn't considered
- when possible, I've tried to factor in whether the actual selection was bad, which is why Hastings got added, as well as White to a lesser extent. I almost went with Hogg just because we went back to that well a couple of times.

Kerrigan deserves a look in, surely? Could be a lucky break for Ansari. Agree that Mahmood is slightly hard done by here, but can't think of any obvious replacements right now.

If we're extending it to outside tests, Dernbach.
