Ward has had a great season - deserved another chance, but with Tres, Vaughan, Butcher, Key, Stewart, we can't just pick all openers!!

As for the injuries - maybe the English team got so hacked off they picked a fight with the Aussies, who soon turned on them with cricket bats and various other weapons....yeah that's right - hey maybe we can get them disqualified or something...:P

Because Ramprakash and Salisbury are Test Faliures, I wouldn't pick either of them, maybe I'd bring Ward back, only if he does well next year to show this wasn't a one off...
But where would you play Ward - there's at least 3 openers ahead of him, and he's already shown he isn't a middle order player!

Thinking about it some of the Zimbabwean teams are pretty strong, Matabeleland have basically all of Zimbabwe's and Mashonaland have all the batsmen...
But they're Zimbabwean Internationals - so not strong at all.

Except Grant and Andy Flower...Streak...Campbell...Vermulen has a good FC average and has already shown he can play in those ODIs.

Well, other teams also have toured Australia recently and lost badly, but they haven't had 1/4th of the men injured before the tour, 1/2 in hospital during the tour.....I mean I can understand the mental bruising after receiving such a pasting, but the physical crippling is.....I don't know how to put it.

One doesn't even lose that percentage of a troop in a war, leave alone in sports.
This is maddening, English team is becomming a laughing stock, what is the physiotherapist doing??

Maybe England should be given to play just a single test (instead of a series) against Test nation, keeping in mind of the fragile nature of English players!

In both World Wars England lost 100s of 1000s of men, millons even. To compare them to this crisis is quite odd to say the least.

Not only odd but totally disrespectful.

No need whatsoever.

Because it's our turn to play Australia, so we've automatically become the worst side ever!

I guess it's because they can....

But I really do blieve that, this is about to change... I mean 2 years ago England score more than 200 in any inngs..Now our batting is hitting form and had a run of about 6 1st inngs scores over 500 in the summer, (bar Australia) we have competed well with the likes of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and the West Indies and it will be intresting to see how we do against SA next summer... Plus the many younger players that are now starting to come through our systems (Jones, Key, Harmison etc) plus the many back home.

Well right now England have touched rock bottom and it has a lot to do with a large amount of players getting injured mysteriously. The first thing the ECB shoould do is look after the fitness of the players, an injury prone squad simply cannot achieve success

Rock bottom?

No, that was in 1999 when we went below every nation in the Test rankings.

We have bounced back a long way from there (thanks in the main to Fletcher, Hussain, and MacLaurin) and are experiencing a temporary slump in line with the fact we have to play Australia. The injuries have come at a bad time as we needed a full strength side to compete, but even this tour has had some good things about it (Harmison, Jones, Key, Dawson)

All I can say is, if this is rock bottom for English Cricket, we're in a far better state than most of the other nations' are!

perhaps it is time to look at the administrator's / selectors of the domestic game & international team......

perhaps it is also time to forget about what might have been regarding the injuries & use the remaining tour matches to blood fringe players to gain some depth / options leading into the WC????

You forget that NZ went thru the same horror run of injuries on their Zim / SA tour!!!!

;)

true, although SA away is no easy nut to crack (unless you are the Aussies)....

all I am trying to point out is that this run of injuries is on a par to that of NZ from that tour. As I said in another thread that NZ have still not been able to pick from a full / fit squad since then.

At the time the NZ bowling attack was primarily based around Cairns, Nash, Vettori & O'Connor - on that tour we lost the first 3 for over 12 months!!! The injury to Jones is unfortunate, but he was hardly an integral part of the attack - only Gough can lay claim to that! So far as I know only their (Gough & Jones) are season ending injuries - the rest should be right b4 the WC & England should be thankful for that much....

Even for the upcoming 1st Test v India Cairns, Adams, O'Connor, Franklin, Butler, Horne are all unavailable thru injury, along with the retirements of Parore & Nash means we have still currently got 6 - 8 players unavailable!

England need to bite the bullet and try some fringe players into the Test squad - even some from the OD team like Irani - give them a run to see what they can do. NZ had to blood players like Martin, Bond, Butler, Oram, Vincent, Franklin, McCullum - even ODI 'specialists' like Harris & Styris got Test caps during this time!!!

Look upon it as a test of the intestinal fortitude of the team, Captain & Administration. Going on about the injuries is not going to change anything, except imbed a 'poor bugger me' attitude - time to step up to the mark & see what the aforementioned group is made of!!!!

I don't want to disrespect anyone and start the'whinging pom' chant - but it's starting to get that way guys!!!!

They won't get blooded because they don't play for the right damn counties... :(!

The only ones to have shown some fight this tour are the "youngsters" or later calls, the more experienced ones could learn from this...
