XI's that play for your life

Just to confirm my post - The team CANNOT lose. So a draw is fine.
1. Boycott
2. Gavaskar
3. Bradman
4. Kallis
5. Sobers
6. Waugh
7. Sanga (wkt)
8. Wilf Rhodes
9. Bailey
10. Botham
11. Shane Warne

Bat to avoid the draw (Im not risking a loss for my life). Warne and Botham could potentially run through the opposition.

Kallis, Waugh, Sobers, Rhodes and Bailey to provide support.

Balanced attack with Botham and Sobers to open.

So a win or a draw is all that is required, is it?

Hmmm. Off the top of my head (and bearing in mind later revision)

1. Hobbs
2. Hutton
3. Bradman
4. Border
5. Barrington
6. Khan
7. Knott
8. Warne
9. Lillee
10. Marshall
11. McGrath

5.Jaques Kallis
6.Gary Sobers
7. Imran Khan
8. Mark Boucher+

That would be the XI I would entrust with saving my life

Agree with JB I think - would be inclined to pick Border ahead of Ponting or Lara.

Ideally we need a team to combat them - say the 'Gifted but temperamentally flawed' XI. Slater, Kambli, Tufnell perhaps?

If you were picking a side which only had to draw, and if you didn't you'd be killed, wouldn't you just pick the 11 best batsmen of all time? I know i would.

Jack Hobbs
Len Hutton
Don Bradman
Viv Richards
+Andy Flower
Garry Sobers
*Imran Khan
Richard Hadlee
Wasim Akram
Malcom Marshall
Bill O'Reilly

Well out of players I have seen (1996 onwards)

1 - M.Hayden(I know he's agressive but he's by far and away the best opener I have seen)
2 - M.Atherton(Anyone remember his famous Jo'burg innings and his many heroic acts for England)
3 - R.Dravid(They don't call him 'The Wall' for nothing)
4 - J.Kallis(Just the best defensive batsmen I have seen)
5 - S.Waugh(Very good when the chips are down and is as hard as nails)
6 - S.Chanderpaul(Loves to bat)
7 - A.Gilchrist(Need a batting keeper to add depth and he's the best at that art.
8 - S.Pollock(Mr.Reliable and is a handy batsmen as well)
9 - W.Akram(Has everything as a bowler. Pace, Conventional and Reverse Swing, an excellent bouncer and yorker. He's also got a Test Match Double Century to his name)
10 - S.Warne(Amazing Variation and accuracy. The bigger the occasion the better he was)
11 - G.McGrath(Will rip through any top order with ease without ever leaving the top of off stump)

Jason Gillespie surely worth inclusion for the guys who just want as much batting depth as possible.

My thinking would be the same as a few others, with alot of batting, something like:
1. hayden
2. boycott
3. bradman
4. ponting
5. lara
6. border
7. sobers
8. miller
9. flower+
10. warne
11. mcgrath

warne and mcgrath would be able to keep the scoring down!

1. Hayden
2. Gavaskar
3. Bradman
4. Dravid
5. Border
6. Waugh (C)
7. Miller
8. Gilchrist (Wk)
9. Botham
10. Khan
11. Warne

I tried to keep very good batsmen with a knack of grinding out runs when needed, and when the pressure is crushing, with a tail of all-rounders all capable themselves of producing a batting performance to steel the side or a bowling performance to win the game. When Warne is your #11, I think that's damn good.

7.Kumar Sangakarra

11.Shane Warne

Picking four very capable batsman in Imran, Botham and Hadlee way down the list should make this team extremely tricky to bowl out twice.
