I swear cricket would be way better if the captains had no influence on the pitch and the curator does whatever and no one else knows till first days play

Then I'd fear you'd see a lot of dead roads that guarantee 5 days of revenue for the grounds. Except, this would gradually kill Test Cricket and no one would go.

I'm not sure I've seen much evidence of captain's influencing pitches anyway.
