WTC 2025 Final : Qualifying scenario

Hey Bangladesh have a good shot at it! I guess 2 tests in India and to a lesser extent 2 tests in Pakistan screws them a little, but to get 6 wins from that set of games, or 5 wins and 3 draws, is well within the realms of possibility. That would probably only be enough if a one-sided BGT eventuates however.

Keep in mind this is an estimation, obviously not exact scenarios. It still depends on the results of other teams

Potentially all 4 of Australia, India, New Zealand & South Africa/Pakistan could achieve the "wins required" in this graphic at the same time

It's incorrect and depends on how other results pan out.

India needs minimum 6/10 and that's dependent on SA winning no more than 6/8. But SA looking good to win 7/8. If SA gets 7/8, then India needs 7/10 i.e. clean sweep Ban and NZ and then 2 wins in Australia.

Australia needs minimum 4/7 if SA wins no more than 6/8. But if SA wins 7/8, then Aus requires a little more than 5/7 i.e. 3 wins & a draw vs Ind and clean sweep Lanka away.

SA has Pak, SL at home (expect 4/4)
WI & Ban Away - (expect 3/4) so 7/8 for SA is likely

If 7/8 pans out SA would make the final, unless they mess up the overrates. So to get an Ind v Aus final, SA needs to mess up 2 matches at least, but given their draw I don't see it happening.

It also doesn't take into account slow over rates which is obviously the key factor for deciding which teams should make the Final.

Ridiculous format, the sooner it's scrapped the better.
Yep lets not even include the other test teams. Cos they might win their only test and make the final.

Should be based on points alone and everyone play the same amount of games.

If countries can't afford to host the same amount, ICC should do something to change that.

A better final scenario needs made too. One off game in England is stupid.

Yeah it's a joke. The over rate thing especially.

It also shouldn't be every 2 years. Far too frequent, should be every 4 or even 5 years to make it more meaningful, and ideally allow a full home and away cycle to give everyone an even chance.

Finally the team on top should host it. India finishing on top then getting forced to play against a SENA team in England is clearly unfair

If it is every 4 or 5 years squads will change way too much.

A four year cycle would allow the nine participants to play each other home and away, two home series a year each. That would be a more even competition.

If there was a full schedule of all-play-all, home and away, there would also be a stronger case to run it in a league basis only and dispense with the final. Test cricket is a serious business which should award excellence over a lengthy period. It does not require the artificiality of a one-off, winner takes all final.
