Not really.I will ignore the slips stuff which is irrelevant.

This is the worst idea yet.Any merit to Gilly at 6 and Davidson at 7? Then you can have either Lindwall and Lillee, or Warne and O'Reilly. With McGrath nailed on at 11 of course.
He brings that left arm variety and batted at 7 plenty of times in tests!
lemme give you a worse idea real quick. we obviously all know the most important thing when picking a team with two spinners is having the spinners spin the ball in different directions and yet everyone is picking warne and o'reillyThis is the worst idea yet.
I don't hate this so much if you don't pick Lillee.lemme give you a worse idea real quick. we obviously all know the most important thing when picking a team with two spinners is having the spinners spin the ball in different directions and yet everyone is picking warne and o'reilly
6. miller
7. gilchrist
8. warne
9. lillee
10. lyon
11. mcgrath
now that's good balance
I know its most likely not the ideal team or anything but the image of Warne and Murali bowling from opposite ends spinning the ball both ways has always entranced me somewhat. Would also perhaps be a way for me to include Imran in my XI (for Imran lovers)we obviously all know the most important thing when picking a team with two spinners is having the spinners spin the ball in different directions
Why? Is it because his test batting record is so far below his FC batting record? This is the worst idea yet.
Never seen a SA XI where he wasn't the no. 1 opener, including ours. You know why lol. Don't make this about that again.
So question. How did this thread become about South Africa and the usual Barry Richards stuff...
As per Thread OP, Miller is one of my 5 locks in any Australia ATG XI (Bradman, Miller, Gilchrist, Warne and Lillee). The rest of the spots are up for discussion on any give day
1. Hayden
2. Simpson
3. Bradman
4. Chappell
5. Border
6. Miller
7. Gilchrist
8. Davidson
9. Warne
10. Lillee
11. McGrath
Squad: Ponting, Lindwall, O'Reilly
That's literally one ground. Not on the 80s SCG
Miller averaged 31 overs a game. Cummins as regular third seamer averages 33 overs a game. So Miller could handle a third seamer load IMO.So question.
In a series vs SA or the WI how much do you think Miller averages with the bat, and how much overs a match does he bowl, especially considering that Lillee, Warne and McGrath are capable of marathon efforts.
Not to add that you've left out Australia's 2nd best bat ever.
And Headley.Fair but Ambrose and Holding were beasts in Australia in the 80s and 90s, Marshall also excellent. Gibbs provides excellent control.
And I think between Viv, Lara and Sobers, they have Warne covered.
Worrell hardly opened. By right it should be Hunte and Greenidge. And Headley.
Worrell too if he opens as he does for me.
Not really better batting if you play Miller in the top 6. You sort of diminish the Bradman advantage. That's why I have Miller at 8.Aus team balance isn't quite right whether or not Miller plays. May as well pick him onthe principle of playing the best players.
That also leaves AUS with better batting and bowling than everyone else. It's a nice position to be in.
What about him?Never seen a SA XI where he wasn't the no. 1 opener, including ours.
So again, no reason to ignore him.
It is a myth. They are basing it off WPM I think which isn't as much an issue for a third seamer in an attack of Lillee, McGrath and Warne.Where did this myth about Miller didn't bowl enough so can't be a 3rd pacer come from?
Lindwall, Miller and Davidson played 8 Tests together as a pace attack (Davidson 1st change)
Miller - 2094 balls - 23 wkts
Lindwall - 1918 balls - 27 wkts
Davidson - 990 balls - 10 wkts
Note: the trio actually played 9 tests together but Miller didn't bowl at all in Davidson's test debut (assume injury?)
