Worst Sport/Event in the 2024 Olympics - submissions

It's time for the classic Olympics tradition: what is the worst sport featured. I'm taking this list of Sports from the Paris 2024 website: https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/sports

Within Swimming and Athletics, I'm thinking of picking one event within the cluster to rep them, which I'll include in the next post. if other events within sports are deemed worthy (the male's football event?) we can consider what to do there.

We'll maybe do a poll of 8 or so sports later, but let's take submissions for now. My picks in bold

Look, it's pretty clear to me that rowing, sailing and the horse stuff are the worst **** here. I don't think it's even worthy of discussion tbh. Rowing in particular ****s me.

Boxing is probably the only olympic sport I've never been able to find interesting or enjoy watching

• Football - takes up lots of time, and ultimately so unimportant in the wider context of football
• Tennis - again, not really important compared to Grand Slams, also a bit of a joke this time around given that people have withdrawn from the singles and have been replaced by doubles specialists who get pumped
• Golf - not really representative of high level golf
• Boxing - absolutely corrupt and judging is a farce

it's hard for me to vote for trampoline, given the potential for people to eat **** during it.

I'm considering the 200m Individual Medley's in swimming (do we really need this after the superior 400m ones?) and this new Marathon Race Walk Relay Mixed seems like a bunch of bull****

Not really a contest. Modern pentathlon with the cruel equestrian round is the worst.

The riding will be replaced with an obstacle course for future Olympics, which might be fun, but frankly they should give it up as the anachronism it is.

I watched some skateboarding yesterday and they took off, jumped on a stair railing, fell off, hit the ground and some scores popped up.

I don’t mind skateboarding as a sport at all, but this particular event was dire AF. When it started I thought if you had a fall then you were out, which is why the competitors just stopped. But then someone landed their trick and they stopped too.

wtf? There’s a whole course there in front of them. Get into it ffs.

The long swimming events are like watching wallpaper dry, but at least the marathon swim has scenery, so I'll nominate the 1500m freestyle in the pool. No more interesting then watching folks do lengths in your local pool.

Rhythmic gymnastics , artistic swimming goes without saying.

However, worst of all has to go, every Olympics, to fencing . The only time this gets any coverage in the UK is a clip of some guy being an absolute douche because they lost, which says everything. Beekeepers with pointy sticks

Football needs to go. Speed climbing or whatever it is called is pointless.

Squash should be in, got the other racket sports in so why not squash.

I think to be in the Olympics it needs to be the pinnacle of that sport and in golf, tennis and football that clearly isn't the case. Get rid.

Otherwise, golf is surely the 2nd worst. I agree with Chubb about the bizarre "Modern" Pentathlon. If they want to practice these skills, go and join a Charge of the Light Brigade re-enactment society.

And there's too many swimming events. Biff the backstroke unless you introduce a similar backwards running event. Would happily watch a backwards steeplechase for the lols.
