Isn't Shahid Afridi supposed to be a ODI specialist? Or does he just find the need to take a risk of getting bowled/stumped when facing Warne?
How dangerous is Shahid Afridi ? If Pakistan had six Afridis batting at numbers 1 to 6, would Pakistan be delighted or would Australia ??

I wonder :confused1 :confused1

As a New Zealander who has watched our games against both England and Aussie in recent times, I would say I find Gilchrist to scare me a lot more than Flintoff. In fact, I get more scared by McGrath than Flintoff.

But personally, with the same thoughts as Craig had in mind, I would say that Akhtar is the most dangerous cricketer out there today, and Lee/Harmison could come second. I'm quite sure a huge amount of test batsmen would agree with me. :p

Lets see how he fares against the aussies first. I expect our bowlers to sort him out nicely.

Aside from that I'd hardly say a test bowling ave of 36 makes Flintoff the most dangerous player

Of course you've looked at the career behind the numbers when saying that haven't you?

I believe he's averaging about 24 with the ball in the last 12 months.

If i should do more than glance at stats ..then why have you produced the stat that flintoff has 58 wickets in his last 17tests?...

Anyway...I believe stats are more crucial in cricket than any other game and for Gilchrist to have this ave and strike rate in his whole career is incredible..

Yes, but is a career stat more valid than a stat covering the most recent period?

Clearly you think so since you ignore Flintoff's very good recent period and ignore Gilchrist's relatively poor recent period.

Whats more....I highly doubt that Flintoff would make the Aussie side if he were born there. Just the same way as a Kiwi, I'd have to confess Chris Cairns probably wouldn't have been consistently in the aussie side through the 90s-2003.

Hmm, comparing the 2 is a bit strange IMO - and I doubt there's an Aussie on here who wouldn't want Flintoff to play for them.

In the meantime, Gilchrist has established himself as an all-time great and one of the 5 best all-rounders ever.
And there was me thinking the greatest all-rounders would've been good at 2 disciplines.

If Afridi's in the zone then that could be devastating!

Gilchrist is a very good 'keeper - I don't care how many people say he isn't. It seems to me that the main reason people malign his 'keeping is because it is unfathomable that he could be such a devastating batsman and a 'keeper worth his place. Plenty of wise men of the game acknowledge how good Gilchrist's 'keeping is. I know he misses a few easy chances, but everyone does. It's the ability to take the blinding half-chances that makes someone a standout.

The most destructive player?

ADAM GILCHRIST without a doubt! With a S/R of 81.38, he is a master timer of the ball and a very skillful keeper. Not since The Don have we seen anyone so destructive. I'm not being biased either, Chris Cairns is good too, but Gilchrist is better. Coming in at 7 for Australia, he becomes a saviour when the openers and the middle order collapses. Annnd... he opens for the ODIs, which says a lot about his abilities. Go GILLY!

Bloody shahid afridi can hit the ball mile's away.
EVen in test match he trie's to hit every ball for six how suprising is that.
For every ball he hits a mile into the stands, he misses fifty balls which rocket into his stumps. He's dangerous 2% or so of the time.

My top 5 most dangerous players in ODI cricket are:
Akhtar, Cairns, Flintoff, Symonds, Jayasuriya

My top 5 most dangerous players in test cricket are:
Gilchrist, Flintoff, Sehwag, Sangakkara, Akhtar

By that criteria, Afridi would have been out bowled 8,800 times in ODIs by now. :p
