You and the troll are many people? Not great company you're in mate.
Even the troll (was he? I thought he was just an especially misguided individual, who is now banned in any case) thought Bradman was the best... So it's something of a "you-and-whose-army" scenario.

In any case the Boycott comment is strange given I'm fairly sure that he said reasonably recently (recently enough as to make no difference considering the timeframes talked about) that it was 1. Bradman and 2. Sachin...

Well i've heard the man say it a thousand times that "HE THINKS Sobers is the greatest cricketer ever", maybe he was talking about just batsman from your list? because when he spoke about Sobers he covered all the areas of his game.

And Geoffery Boycott is a West indian too right?!! .
I've seen plenty of sources where he categorically states the Bradman is the best. I've not see him say that Sobers is the best, only "I broke Garry Sobers' record and I said at the time that if you play enough Test matches and you're pretty good at what you do then you'll break records". Perhaps he seen personally. And indeed: "But along with Viv Richards he’s the best I’ve ever seen." - fairly sure he's talking about personal sight here.

And again, it's one person. You don't have to look far to find a non-Australian who acknowledges Bradman as the finest.

I heard Boycott say that Imran was the greatest cricketer, but I think his "audience" dictates who he thinks is the best.

Which proves my point actually as he talks about the greatest "batsman", not the greatest "cricketer" in that article.

WindieWeathers,

Please explain Sobers' av of 15.1 over 7 matches in NZ?

Ponting is often discounted as a batsman cause of his av in India.

This is the World's Greatest Thread IMO.

On a serious note, I think it's pretty clear that the all time Australian team is better balanced and has more options than the all time West Indian team. That doesn't mean that they'd win though, just that they would be better able to adapt to conditions.

I find it incredible that people are holding (no pun intended) up Marshall to be a class above Lillee and McGrath. If he was better than either of those two fast bowlers, it wasn't by very much at all.

A fast bowling attack consisting of Lillee, McGrath and Miller would make me crap my pants as much as a fast bowling attack of Marshall, Garner, Holding and Ambrose. Especially on a seaming wicket (in which case Lindwall or Davidson would play). Gibbs isn't even in the same league as any of the big 3 Australian spinners - Warne, O'Reilly and Grimmet and I would also place Benaud at least as being a clearly better spinner than Gibbs based on what I have heard from books etc...

I would love to see a five test series played between:

Greenidge
Weekes
Richards
Headley
Lara
Sobers
Dujon (wk)
Marshall
Holding
Ambrose
Garner

and

Trumper
Hayden
Bradman
Chappell
Ponting
Miller
Gilchrist (wk)
Warne
Lillee
O'Reily
McGrath

It would be a sheer joy to watch. We could even make it a 15 test tri series with an English team as well.
