From memory he qualified via his maternal grandfather, but hadn't realised (hmmm...) that his mum was adopted, so had not even a little toe full of Irish blood.

I am an Ireland player, but I'm not cascarino, though good effort. FIFA were fuming when he retired and revealed that he was never eligible.
