It's not like they always pick it up after the group stages and perform well for the rest of the tournament either though. They haven't been slow starters, they just haven't been much good.

Yeah, fair point, if I think back over recent tournaments the only KO games I've felt we've performed in have been the second round games against Denmark & Argentina, and the one against the Argies saw us going home.

'Twas ever thus tho. Even if you go back to the limits of my living memory there's only really Paraguay in 86 & Jerry in 90 to add to the list.

I'd take a spawny win over a good performance in the KO stages tho.
