World A team series

I heard the ICC are discussing a possible competition involving
the A teams of all countries.

Is this still under consideration ? Or is coming into effect soon ?

I don't know anything much about that plan but I know that the NZC are introducing a NZ 'A' series every year now.

Sri Lanka 'A' will be the first team & the series will consist of 3 tests (or 5 day matches) & 5 One-dayers.

I wonder if it would be possible for the ICC to create a schedule for teams like Kenya, Canada, Namibia etc to play a series of matches against 'A' teams.

sounds like a bloody good idea to have the top 4 or five teams from the icc non test playing nations to play against the test playing nations A teams

Countries like Kenya and Bangladesh should be encouraging 'A' team visits.

Bangladesh just need matches to get experience and Kenya should do the same.

Although it should happen, a full strength Bangladesh team won't play against A teams of other countries other than in tour matches. It would be seen as degrading (a test nation playing A teams) and demoralising (losing to A teams regularly)

It would be fantastic that there would regular A team tours of other countries. They should be classified as FC cricket and with the right promotion would attract spectators. It could also take some of the pressure of the constant cricket that the main teams undertake.

Just imagine how the Australian A team be accepted in Kenya and how much a West Indian A team coould learn about playing spin on tours of the sub continent.

With so few appearances in domestic cricket by the test stars, it could be a siginificant learning stage.

Inter-A-team matches are First-Class and List-A qualified.
A-teams have regularly played Kenya and have beaten them comfortably in the most part (Sri Lanka were a recent example).

As much as I like the idea of A tours and giving the 'next best' exposure in external environments and conditions. It would have to be done in the offseason as it would deplete the player pool for domestic competitions. We strugle to get crowds as it is, this wouldn't help that having even more players away from the domestic circuit.

Injuries considered, I don't think WI has enough players for an 'A' team.

England no longer have an A side.

Don't think it'll happen to be honest - and if it did could only really work as a one day comp, which doesn't really help bring players into Test cricket.

The idea of the non-Test nations playing series against 'A' sides is a good one IMO though.

Perhaps a domestic teams competition could be a viable option. The winners of the Australian, English, New Zealand, South African, West Indies, etc... could all play off in a comp?

Good idea, but two problems.

Firstly when do you have it. It will be in season for some teams and out of season for others. More than likely they will be missing their international players.

Where do you have it and what format? Again the problem of timing occurs.

We've seen that type of comp before a few years back when Western Australia, Mumbai, Central Districts & Natal played.

I remember it being at the WACA and they were lucky to get 100 ppl each day.
