Wondering about history of Australian Test matches

Can anybody give me some deeper insights into the 1901/02 Australia/UK Test Match politics? I got intrigued when I looked at some 1901 merchandise badges posted on eBay the other day, and how 14 players had to basically organise their trip to Australia. Very interesting story.
