Raymon Reifer is the most unWI-like WI allrounder ever. I love him though. I agree that it's time for Tage now but I was thinking recently that I reckon Reifer would offer more utility as opener than the 'specialists' WI have been picking there. I think he'd reliably see off the new ball and average mid 20s, which doesn't sound very exciting but when the competition is filled with players whose typical contribution is 16 (28) it becomes more enticing to at least give the middle order some breathing room with some consistency - plus he's a frontline bowler offering a point of difference with his left arm meds and a good catcher. Having him and Mayers in the top order would definitely justify batting to 8.
Yeah it's definitely a consideration. I feel like Reifer is underappreciated because we've got Jason Holder. That doesn't mean he isn't worthy of consideration in his own right.

The on article in The Roar (yeah, I know) effectively proclaiming Seales as the second coming of Malcolm Marshall. Can't wait till he gets down here and averages 40 (I hope he does a lot better than that, but I have horror memories of a good-on-paper attack getting utterly annihilated down here without the Dukes ball in hand).

The line about the 'sheer pace and bounce proving too much for Nigeria's top order' was the icing on the cake.

I think it's rather premature anyway to talk about WI's bowling evening things up when they're coming with one international quality batsman at best.

He is the best young pacer we have had since Kemar Roach, for sure. I think he will do very well not because of his physical gifts but because of his cricket brain. For example, he is already bowling a much better line and length than Alzarri Joseph at 19 years of age. So I am confident he will do well.

Can't say the same for Roach and Gabriel, who are terrible with the Kookaburra. Holder should do well. Cornwall in theory should do well becasuse of his extra bounce. Basically this attack should be decent even in Australian conditions. We have a very decent group of seam bowlers not in the XI, so I'm not worried about the bowling.

Agree about the batting though. The thought of us facing the Aussie bowling attack in a day night match has me hiding behind the sofa already tbh.

It's not too hard to bowl a better line than Joseph - his was (and often still is) horrible, hence why he's never fulfilled the promise his action implies. A most frustrating bowler. Holder shouldn't have to do too much to improve on his average of 93 here. He's a significantly better bowler now, but his first foray is a reminder that tall line and length isn't a guarantee of success.

Cornwall is a bit of an enigma. When I've watched him bowl he's fallen a little short of the accuracy I'd want. To be honest he reminds me of Mark Craig a little bit. He's still the best choice. No spinner is probably a better option than Pemaul or Warrican, neither of whom are remotely suited to Australia conditions.

It's been so long since WI visited here hardly anyone will remember who's who. A tremendous fall from grace. Been even longer since they toured SA as well. I'll be interested to see if one of the commentators acts quizzzicly about why Roach is no longer bowling 150 km/h.

Haha you're spot on, that will definitely come up. It's going to be a difficult tour, no doubt about it. We just have to hope the new guys (Da Silva, Mayers, Seales, Cornwall) can adapt to the conditions. If they don't it will be difficult viewing. Some of our better batsmen of modern times struggled there, like Ronnie Sarwan for example.

Our expectations are incredibly low so any decent performances will be a bonus.

tbf, and i'm already making excuses for my boy rakheem, touring spinners don't do well here. aside from the ravi's the last one to do well here was keshav maharaj in 2016 and i'm of the firm opinion that he's the second best spinner in the world atm

Yeah fair point. When I say do well in an Australian tour context, I basically mean that his bowling wont be absolutely marmalised.

He’s bowled pretty poorly in the recent test opportunities that he has been given

It’s a shame for Gabriel in some ways but the team is moving on without him

And Bravo…what a wasted career.

If Joseph comes good then I reckon Beamer owes the selectors an apology
Tbf Alzarri has really progressed recently. If he continues like that he's definitely a starter
