unfortunately yes he will. but he'll always be a trundler in my eyes, he could get 1000 wickets for all i care and i wont change my opinion

He basically takes wickets at 4 per Test, so that would suggest he's going to need 17 to get there. The end of next year's Ashes is 11 Tests away (possibly 12 with a WTC Final). After that Aus have virtually no Test Cricket for 10 months. Does he go to SA in Oct '26 when he's about to turn 39? I'd be surprised if he makes it to 600 before that.

Anyway, in a delicious sense of irony, I suspect England will end his career!!

tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if Starc and/or Hazlewood give it up around then. I could see Lyon wanting to stick around for some continuity/stability but who knows.

Yeah, Hazlewood's body seems to be giving up on him and he could easily be first to go. Despite being the oldest of the seamers, Starc seems pretty reliable for getting out onto the park. It's a tricky one to manage, but there doesn't appear to be any natural successor to Lyon at the mo either.

Hard to replace the only finger spinner in history who has been consistently successful in Australian conditions

They’ll find someone to do a job & complement him with an all rounder

Australia has been extremely fortunate to have had a 4 man attack for so long
