If Australia are looking to address the problems that cost them the Ashes in 2005, there is still some work to do. Their middle-order looks as fragile as ever. There is no way they can go into the Ashes with Symonds and Gilchrist at six and seven, respectively. Symonds is simply not up to batting in the top six for Australia. He's been given more than a fair run - 9 Test matches, including the last 7 in succession. Despite this, he still averages under 20. I wouldn't care if he is a genius with the ball (in reality, his bowling is merely serviceable) Australia can not afford to have him as a specialist batsman against England, particularly batting infront of a fading Gilchrist.

I`d give Symonds one more chance in the third Test. There are just too many quality options waiting to replace him.

Will Gilchrist ever recapture past glories?
Will he ever do more than smash one quick 80-odd a series from now on (if even that)?
It's not something I'd like to predict the possibility of, because it's 50\50 either way for me. Anyone who writes him off is a fool, and anyone who says he'll be back isn't the most sensible either.

My Favourite Australian Ashes LineUp to smash England would look sumthing like this,

4. Clarke

6. Watson/Symonds
7. Gilchrist

10. Johnson
11. McGrath

The Bowling would look sumthin like this,
1. Lee (use him in short and sharp spurts (4-5 overs a session)
2. McGrath (give him 10-11 overs to start and bring him on later)
3. Johnson (excellent quick to follow lee n mcgrath)
4. Warne (will get good turn later on the dry pitches)
5. Watson/Symonds (watson will be good to swing the old ball late n symonds will bowl slower and choke up the middle order)
6. possibly clarke (could be bowling with a quick from the other end n could be difficult 4 the bastman to face quik n slow at the same time)

Maybe in the 2009 Ashes, I doubt we'll see a side like that.

I'd say Clark, Bracken or Johnson will be used in Brisbane and possibly Perth ahead of MacGill. If they give the 6 spot to Clarke or Symonds then I don't expect MacGill to play except in Sydney.
