Who would you recruit for the IPL in the January auction?

George Bailey could attract some decent money after his ODI tour to India and the demolition job on Anderson.

It depends what teams are looking for Mumbai no to Anderson got Pollard.
Quentin De Kock should go pretty high Keeper Batsmen, surprised Sunrisers didn't keep him, they can match any offer made.
Finch is a shoe in.

What's your best Punjab XI?
  • From Punjab state, they already have opener Manan and can pick Gurkeerat (middle-order and part-time offie), Mandeep (middle-order), Rahul Sharma (leggie) and Sandeep Sharma (right-arm swing bowler), and maybe Sid Kaul (right arm seam-up bowler) and Rajwinder (left-arm spinner).
  • From neighbouring HP, they have Rishi Dhawan (swing bowler on top of Ranji charts and also capable batsman), Bipul Sharma (middle-order batsman and stock left-arm spinner) and Paras Dogra (higher middle-order batsman in great form).
  • They may want to go shopping for a wicketkeeper, or with enough all-rounders and a strong top five, pick up Nitin Saini or Maninder Bisla for the spot, although both are average bats and poor keeps.
  • They have David Miller, and may want to get back Shaun Marsh. Will prefer to pick more Saffies and Aussies.
  • The option of snapping up Quinton is fresh. They can also go in for the more cost-effective Kushal Perera, whose T20I stats are a lot better than domestic T20.
  • They will need to shop for a fast bowler from overseas. My pick is Beuran Hendricks.
  • Alternatively, they can also pick up an overseas spinner. Not surprisingly, they can turn to Sri Lanka or West Indies for options.
  • With Rishi Dhawan and Bipul Sharma, they have a long batting lineup, and may want to opt for some top-notch specialist fielders from the region.
Yes, I know it's got a very strong Punjab/HP base, but I'd prefer to pick bunches of players from the same team or area, so that there's a sense of togetherness, which was missing in erstwhile flag-salad teams such as Kolkata and Pune.

Hendricks or Kyle Abbott.
There is Cummins,Starc,Hazelwood and Pattinson all up for auction, lot of bowling talent.
The batting talent seems thin this year.
At 38 will Kallis or Mike Hussey be resigned.

Kallis will certainly be signed unless his reserve price is massive. All rounders don't grow on trees, unless you consider an apple as an all rounder as it goes well in its main discipline and also in pies.

I think Mike Hussey will get a contract.
IPL sides only get 9 overseas players, instead of 12 like last year, you gotta get value for money, you don't want someone who is late 30's and playing international cricket a lot like the Sri lankans. and England is . Not unless you are in the T20 squad and nothing else,Pakistan seems unlikely.
And if your peformance is poor the last 3 years like Dave Hussey forget it.
May see some random players picked up from domestic comps we know little about.

I'm not so concerned about the money, but I do hope Kedar, Rasool, Rishi Dhawan, Ishwar and Manish Pandey, Pankaj Singh, Umesh and Aaron get full frontline roles in the teams they represent, in the company of some top international players. It will do them a lot of good. Bits-and-pieces roles and bench time won't.

MJ's limited overs bowling is not as impressive as his test bowling. Was hit around in the odi series when Oz toured recently. Wouldn't spend too much on him. C Anderson will be the best paid overseas player without doubt. Think he will go to one of the sides that have not retained a lot of players. CSK/MI etc can't afford him and all the others they have to sign.

Stokes and Buttler withdrawing astounds me. I can't think of anything more attractive than the IPL as a young cricketer, and I'm not even talking about the money.

You get to go and hang out with some of the best cricketers of the modern era, in new and exciting team models with generally innovative coaching staff. And you get to go to an incredibly diverse country with a fascinating history and culture.

It's what, 6 weeks out of the calender? These guys don't have families or other commitments.

Really think England should be careful not to over-manage their players here. It sounded like an awfully strict environment during the Ashes. TBH, I think it's more likely to be those overly regulated environments that cause burnouts for players than 6 weeks of hit and giggle in which the result - let's be honest here - doesn't really matter at all.
