Only two teams hav won a test away and at home this summer.
Yes, that's right, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are joint number one. Suck on that one.
SL? Which test did they win at home?Only two teams hav won a test away and at home this summer.

SL hasn't won at home in 2 years, SL are solely road warriors now...Only two teams hav won a test away and at home this summer.

If the rankings reflected consistency South Africa wouldn't have a shot of being number 1.India's stay started at the end of 2009 and lasted till mid 2011 before England took over.
The way things are going, England won't even last a year. People often forget that the rankings reflect the consistency of teams, not which team is the "best" in the world.
How so, in tests? If the rankings reflected consistency South Africa wouldn't have a shot of being number 1.
FixedWhy? They've been pretty consistent. They win games at home and away, and draw games at home.
And why is that? Consistency doesn't necessarily have to mean winning everywhere. India's ranking was built on simply not losing a test series since SL in 08, that's 3 years without losing a test series before they played England and lost. So while they were't hammering down the wins, they weren't losing as much as other teams, which kept them at the top. I remember when we faced the likes of NZ and WI we'd lose points for getting 1-0 results in a 3 match series, simply because the difference in rating points was so huge that anything less than a clean sweep would cost us points. And now that England are # 1 they're points are gonna take a huge hit, especially when they lose to low ranked teams like Pakistan (before this series anyway). If the rankings reflected consistency South Africa wouldn't have a shot of being number 1.
What? They lost games to England, Australia, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka at home in the last 5-6 years.Fixed
And the West Indies. I think every side bar Bangladesh who's visited South Africa in the last 5 years has won at least one Test. What? They lost games to England, Australia, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka at home in the last 5-6 years.
They haven't won enough series on a consistent basis IMO. India, despite their flaws, were deserving of their number 1 status. England deserve it just now. South Africa have been nowhere near as consistent as the last 2 holders of the spot. Why? They've been pretty consistent. They win games at home and away, and lose games at home and away.
OK. I was thinking series. What? They lost games to England, Australia, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka at home in the last 5-6 years.
So what? And the West Indies. I think every side bar Bangladesh who's visited South Africa in the last 5 years has won at least one Test.
They shouldn't be losing tests to sides like West Indies, Sri Lanka, etc. at home if they want to be #1.....So what?
They haven't lost series on a consistent basis either, IIRC the last time they lost a series was early 2009 against Australia. Since then no one's beaten them in a series yet, however that's counter balanced by the fact that they haven't won many series against decent ranked opposition, SL is the first team they've beaten in a series in a long time. So they haven't moved up or down from where they were about 2 years ago. They haven't won enough series on a consistent basis IMO. India, despite their flaws, were deserving of their number 1 status. England deserve it just now. South Africa have been nowhere near as consistent as the last 2 holders of the spot.
