This is the difference between looking at the overall batting aggregate vs the overall team aggregate (the aggregate/overall button). This also adds in extras that contribute to team totals, which is the difference between the batting average of all players and the team average.

Just shows that players tend to be a bit overrated during their primes but rated accurately after their careers are over. Kohli was also being compared to some ATGs in 2018 but not anymore.

Suddenly the narrative will be is Root the best player of the generation? given he no longer has any holes in his record and has performed more consistently..

Root: 14,000 runs, 40-41 tons, career avg 51-52 in relatively tougher conditions vs...

Smith: 10,800 runs, 37 tons, avg 54-55 in relatively flatter Aussie conditions (mostly).
