Oops i voted for whom i want..not who will most likely get it!!Read the OP after i voted!!

Well i think the selectors are most likely to give it to Sharma, failing that maybe Yuvraj.Pretty sure Badri and Raina are behind these two in the pecking order.Murali might have to wait a bit more.

Whatever it takes!!!
They had Badri as the reserve batsman in the last tour and unless he has failed miserably in the games in between, I think he should deserve a run at 6 for a few tests... He has earned his chance to fail, he has made mountains of runs at every level he has played in, including A tours...

Rohit, Raina and Vijay will all get their chances, but for now, I think they shud try Badrinath..

I hope its Badrinath, he has been someone who has been scoring heavily in domestic cricket for god knows since when without getting his due, and i think he should be given a fair run now, but i seriously doubt that because he might not be an appealing enough option for the Indian selectors and i wouldn't be surprised one bit if someone like Rohit Sharma or Raina may replace Ganguly, but my choice would be Badrinath without a shred of doubt.

I don't think it should be Raina or Rohit Sharma. If it were up to me, I'd go with Badrinath or Vijay. Probably Badrinath as I feel his shot at the test team is long overdue. Unfortunately, whoever is selected will be under immense pressure to perform, but if he puts up a good show, good things will follow. Kind of like Mishra, who just grabbed his chance and will now very likely become a test regular even though Ojha and Chawla were both tried before him in ODIs.

And Yuvraj, even though he's a decent batsman, I don't think he will get another chance until Tendulkar, Laxman and Dravid all retire. For now, it will probably be one of the above 4.

Since it is a left hander, one would have said Yuvraj or Raina but as far as the game is concerned I think Rohit is at the head of the queue. Badrinath has not made the best of his chances irrespective of how much the Indian fan favours him at the moment. His chance will come again but not immediately I suspect.
What chances? 3 ODI? That shouldn't have anything to do with the Test team (though I know that it does).

No Badri in the ODI team...........and Rohit Sharma is in. I don't know what the big fuss about Badrinath is? Did not look all that special in the few matches that I saw him. Rohit Sharma on the other hand looked pretty good.

This is getting all too confusing.

1. Badrinath is the one who should be selected as replacement for Ganguly. He has been the most consistent over a long period of time and statiscally, he far superior that anyone listed thus far.

2. Where exactly has Murali Vijay come from? I was thinking that when Gambhir got suspended, either Jaffer or Chopra would of come in. Either way, I don't think he can 'come' into the team. Also, on another thread, someone said that there is a Tamil Naidu influence in the Indian selection committee now. Isn't Badrinath from there too?

3. Rohit Sharma has been pumped up so much that it is not even funny anymore. He played one or two innings of note in the CB series and ever since then, he has been disappointing. At this moment in time, he is no better than the others named. AFAIC, Raina>Rohit.

Agreed entirely. Badrinath is the one who has to get the spot. Knowing Indian Cricket, he probably won't. Murali Vijay should be the ideal candidate to replace Dravid at number 3. Badrinath will be a good fit at number 5 or 6 for India.

I am not surprised. I find that Badrinath is a bigger favourite on CC than in the wider space. It could be because the general public is a bit more flexible (fickle if you want to be uncharitable) while on CC we tend to hold our once expressed opinions much tighter and are more reluctant to change :)

Badrinath or Raina. Sharma is not ready, Vijay is a top-order batsman and Yuvraj has a long way before earning another test call-up. Badrinath is the most deserving but he's in poor form and I'm not sure how he'll fare in his current state - that's why I wouldn't mind Raina, who's also scored heavily and is in good form.

surely after today Yuvraj Singh is the only possible solution? He is terrifying!!! (as an Englishman currently wincing at the score over there...!)

Funny how a Maharashtra influence wasn't mentioned when Rohit came into the frame with Vengsarkar in charge. Stop bringing parochialism into the discussion.

Can you suggest a better opener (purely on current form) than Vijay at that stage?
