Who do you think Should Captain Indian Test team?

alternative

Cricket Web Content Updater
As peoeple mentioned - there is no young player who is set enough in the Test team to give the captaincy to.
Then why not Ganguly then? He did the job before and he was quite good at it too imo, so why not go back to the so called "Winning formula"?

Edit: I do know that there is no official conformation that Tendulkar is the captain, but i am speaking from earlier statements.

Just to clear something up, how many people would go with Dhoni if the next two test series were home to Bangladesh and away to Zimbabwe, instead of home to Pakistan and away to Australia?

Not me. Captaining against those sides wouldn't mark any progress for him and he'd still be unproven as a test-class batsman and keeper ... so when the next big tour rolled around after these two we'd back to the current (real) situation.

Okay, what if it was NZ at home, and then say SL away?

What I'm trying to get at is, are the opposition really being taken into account here, or is it being used simple as an extra reason (the whole tough tour claims etc.) to keep Dhoni out?

I can obviously see why Dhoni should not be test captain in many people's eyes (and I'm almost in agreeance, if it wasn't for the current situation being how it is), but this whole tough tour thing thing being thrown around is obviously not really the true reasons. If its because he's not yet established in the test team then fair enough (though I reckon he already is, rightly or wrongly, considering how long he's been a fixture in it for now), but this 'tough tour' business is rubbish IMO.

Pakistan at home isn't that tough anyway. Away against anyone outside the sub-continent (bar Zim) would be tougher.

but these 2 will be the most pressure series..so think with tendulkar at helm if we perform well ok all is ok we can go back to dhoni after some time.and if we perform poorly we can go back to dhoni.but what they might be taking in to account is he having 2 bad aeries at strat of his career as captain .agreed they are not much bothered about the Pak series but i think they want to just sheild him away from the aussie tour.before giving him the captaincy...

And i dont find much problem with it as long as tendulkars batting is not effected by the cpataincy.it wil be best to tell him that may he is made capatin for 6-8 months and by that time dhoni will take over it from him so tht every one knows what his role clearly is ..

His record isn't good at all, but it was not all his fault. He was pretty much never given what he wanted in terms of team. I mean he got DJ Gandhi, Ramesh, MSK Prasad, etc. Ganguly was much more foreceful. If he didn't get the team he want, he just wouldn't play them...which worked. Hopefully, he has learned his lesson.

Whatever it takes!!!
why not Laxman, then?

anyways, think Dhoni has been earmarked as the future leader, so I think it is safe to say that as long as his performance is reasonable, he will be a certainty in the side, no matter how well a Dinesh Karthik or some other keeper plays.... So I am going with Dhoni here, don't see him dropping below average anytime soon and it seems being average is good enough for him to be in the test side.....

Ramesh looked awful, technique wise, but he was pretty much the most successful opener we had after Sidhu before Sehwag came along.

And he played good knocks against good bowling as well..... He is under rated as a player, for me....

When the team was selected for Australian tour, this is what they said about Indian batting line up :-

".....The one considerable silver lining is that the batting is extremely strong. Never has an Indian batting line up in cricket history seen its top five batsmen in the order - Ramesh, Gandhi, Dravid, Tendulkar and Ganguly - all have a Test career average of 50 plus. The reserve batting -- Ajay Jadeja, Vijay Bharadwaj and VVS Laxman - just about passes muster..... "

So I dont see why it was such a bad selection, MSK Prasad was very much a Tendulkar choice, so were Kanitkar, Agarkar and Vijay Bhardwaj.

In the home series vs. SA he had Jaffer, VVS, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Jadeja, Azhar, Mongia, Kumble, Srinath, Agarkar, (Murali) Kartik, Chopra, Kaif. He lost 2-0.
